commuting to indianapolis and louisville - any town options
My husband and I might, atleast for a while need to accept jobs that require me to commute to the downtown Indy area, and for my husband to commute to downtown Louisville. While we realize that this is not ideal, its just something we may have to do, atleast for now. Does anyone have any suggestions? We heard about Columbus, Indiana as a possibility and wondered whether it was a "workable" option.

Columbus is on I65, which goes to both cities relatively easily. It would be a life of commuting for both of you, however, but it would be doable. You could try to find a place to live as close to the state road 46 entrance as possible.
Welcome and good luck!!!

Your commute time from Columbus (depending on the side of Columbus you would live) would be about 35-40 minutes to Indy and 60-70 minutes to Louisville.
Good Luck!!

It would be rough, but if you and your husband think you can stand commuting that far apart every day it would be doable. The other option you might consider would be Seymour, IN. It's a smaller town south of Columbus and probably about 20,000 people or so. About half the size of Columbus. Depending on how far off the interstate you found a house and assuming no major traffic issues, you could be in downtown Indy in about an hour and downtown Louisville in about 50 minutes.
One good thing for you is that the speed limit here is 70 mph so you might be able to make it in a little less time. One bad thing for your husband is that traffic coming into Louisville down I-65 in that direction can get a little hairy. Until they get the new bridge built on the east end, all traffic coming from the north that want to go to points east of Louisville is still forced to go through downtown. They are also talking about doing major construction on that interchange right downtown which could back things up. Just something to consider.

thank you all, we'll look into seymour also. Also, where in Columbus would be a suitable apartment complex for us to live in initially with respect to freeway access? I donot think we can risk buying until we figure out if it is "workable". Columbus in general seems like a low crime town, but if there is a neighborhood we should avoid please let us know...

If you would like to be close to the Interstate There are Westwood Pines ( 812) 342-1100and Eastlake Woods (812) 342-2310 both are west of town.

thank you all for your prompt replies. We will drive through all these freeways and check out distances when we visit. My husband's commute seems worse than mine. Is there a time morning and evening after or before which the Columbus-Louisville freeway gets clogged? Wondering if he could ask for early work hours or something. Or is it always busy? This information would be very helpful.
Also, similarly for Columbus-Indy
We are really making job decisions based on some of this info...so thank you all...

There's a big apartment complex just off 46 west of the 65 entrance ... is that the complex you are referring to Julie???
I'd also check out Seymour just to say you did ...

Yes. Well, I think it is the same one. It is over by CVS across from JayC Foods (Westwood Pines) and then Eastlake Woods is in Tipton Lakes area.

The new apartment complex is River Stone Apartments. It is very close to I65, right off of SR46.
