What's it like in Marion IN - schools, jobs, friends
Thinking of relocating from small town of 500 to Marion IN. Does anyone have advice about the ease of relocating? Is the cost of living okay?
How about community organizations? Shopping? Recreation? All advice welcome. Thank you!

Right now Marion is one of the downturns hardest hit towns in Indiana. Most of the big factories closed and the area is seriously depressed. Please do not go unless you already have the means to support yourself. There are a lot of locals looking for work.

I have to agree with sweetana. I just went there for a funeral and I could not get over how many places were boarded up.
The area seemed seemed very nice and it seems like a nice place to live, as long as you have a job...

Marion, Indiana has lost many jobs in the past ten years. Many factories have either moved or closed. It seems a very depressed area now, compared to how it was as a booming town years ago when a person could have all the jobs that they wanted and could start working the very day they applied, if they chose. It is so sad to see the Marion area go downhill and hoping at the same time that things will pick up. Afterall, we sure don't want to see our youth leave for work, elsewhere.... We don't live in that county anymore and would not choose to move back but just hate to see things as they have been lately.

do not move there! if you have young kids there is nothing. schools dont care about the children, there are fights everyday in high school. we have even had 1st or 2nd graders bring drugs in to school. if you dont have to go there DONT!

Marion is a dump, and I have friends that have had guns pulled on them by gang members that roam the streets there. If you want a nice, safe little town, move to Huntington.
