Default Indiana - the newest Hollywood trend?

I remember you could probably count on one hand, if that, the number of tv shows that have been based in this state, but after Parks and Recreation and now this fall that one called The Middle with Patricia Heaton, they seem to find something of interest about the Hoosier State. My dad suspects it's due to all the stuff that happened during the election, but who can say.

Parks and Recreation is based here because Indiana provides a "clean slate" for a show about government. Indiana is not really known politically......for anything. So the producers felt they would have an easier time focusing on the "show" and not jhave to worry about the "political history."

I remember Janet on 3's Company was from IN.

Wasn't there another old TV show called like Eerie IN or something like that?

A Christmas Story (the movie) was set in IN.... although I believe the real house is physically located in Ohio.

Breaking Away, Hoosiers

That's all OLD stuff.

The TV show Roseanne although set in the fictional "Lanford IL", a lot of the exterior shots were in Evansville, IN.

I wouldn't say IN is a NEW trend,

The early episodes of "Saved By The Bell" were based in Indiana, believe it or not.

A Christmas Story was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio. The author, Jean Shepherd, was raised in Hammond, IN, and the story is about growing up in Hammond. My husband loves this movie (so do I). He grew up in Hammond and the movie reminds him of his childhood.

Parks and Rec is horrible, though it is nice that the show tries to convey Indiana as a diverse place. I live in Chicago now and most of my friends who are not white just believe that the majority of Indiana outside of NW and Indy is all ignorant, Klansmen, or something to that effect.

I can't imagine anything with Patricia Heaton being good.

On "Family Affair," the three kids were from Terre Haute; they had gone to live with Uncle Bill in New York after their parents died.

Capt. Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) from "Star Trek Voyager" was said to be from Bloomington.

The character of Woody on "Cheers" did some geographic acrobatics. He was from Hanover, but referred to it as being in Posey County, on the other side of the state. When they did a show with Kevin McHale from the Celtics, there were references to Hanover being a neighboring town to French Lick, hometown of Larry Bird. It's actually about 75 miles away

The first season of "The Jeff Foxworthy Show" was set in Bloomington.

There was a sizeable thread here a while back about all the movies made or set in Indiana, including a bunch of sports movies.. Hoosiers, Rudy, Knute Rockne-All American, A League of Their Own, Eight Men Out, Breaking Away, Brians' Song, Blue Chips, Winning, that's all I can remember.
