Check out the subdivision that branches off the left of tonkel road, right at the intersection of dupont road. Take dupont road east(exit 116) on I-69. Turn Left at the tonkel road intersection, then turn into the 1st left off of tonkel. Upper-class style neighbor hood, with houses in the price range you mentioned.

Best housing in Ft. Wayne in your price range - on or near Kensington near Parkview Hospital!
Costco is in Indianapolis and will get to Ft. Wayne before too long!

Your best ares in Fort Wayne would be in the Huntertown or Leo areas.

We live in NE Fort Wayne. Arlington Park subdivision. Real nice location. Arlington Park Association has
a nice common area for walking your dog. Swimming pool, club house, gold course, and tennies courts.
A real nice place to raise a family. As of the date of this posting. There are currently 18 homes up for
sale here in Arlington Park. Infact, you can go to their web site here.
Arlington Park - Home Page You can also go to. Real Estate In Fort Wayne, Allen County, Auburn, Angola, Columbia City, Huntington - Coldwell Banker Roth Wehrly Graber :: Indiana - Real Estate Sales
While visiting cbrwg.com under subdivision type in Arlington Park you will be surprised what pops up.
Also forgot to mention Arlington Park is close by Meijers a brand new Micheals hobby and craft store.

If you want a good public school, choose high school districts for Homestead(SW), Leo or Carroll- the grade schools that funnel into these are all good. My husband grew up in Leo, we are now Southwest.
The difference? Northwest, East Allen(leo) is more true Indiana- big on sports, more down home, more natives. Nice and down to earth.
Southwest? More transplants, more fast paced, more centralized, a little more shallow and competitive. Everything is pretty and well kept. We do not consider ourselves shallow and become annoyed at times by aggressive drivers on cell phones, but its better than CA where I used to live and I enjoy the attractive schools and stores(Jefferson Pt, etc) and meeting people from all over. It may also be more culturally accepting on this end of town, and I see more and more African American children in our schools, which makes me very happy.
Hope I did not over generalize and offend anyone, but if you have to use a broad brush to help people from out of town find their spot, this is my humble opinion. Personally I could be happy in either location. The people I know who live in town ( Fort Wayne Community Schools) choose magnet or private schools.

There is a Costco at Westgate on the west side of Toledo. I suppose the quickest way to get there from Ft Wayne would be 69 up to the Indiana Toll Road/Ohio Turnpike. Get off at Reynolds Road and head North to Central Ave. (There are a few other turns and roads involved, but you get the picture). Roughly 120 miles and 2 hours each way. I suppose if you are getting a lot of stuff, it could be worth the drive.

You could get to the Costco in Castleton in about the same amount of time couldn't you?

You haven't offended me, but I would like to add a point of clarification that sometimes gets lost on this board regarding Northwest vs Southwest Fort Wayne... we're talking about vicinities which are literally 10 minutes drive time apart from each other. There's no major cultural difference or boundary between the two.
The same builders build in both, the same entrepreneurs and big businesses operate in both, and the reality is that both are part of Fort Wayne's rather recent sprawl. Objectively I find you can compare high schools... Homestead (Southwest) is slightly higher rated (higher test scores) than Carroll. Objectively you can also speak to how there's greater density of population and neighborhoods in the Southwest area as well. But really, both are fine, both have good concentrations of affluent people (with Southwest having an edge with the two wealthiest neighborhoods in Fort Wayne... Sycamore Hills and Heron Preserve). Both also have easy access to highway 69 which is the primary way traffic flows North to South in Fort Wayne. You cannot go wrong moving to either area.
My personal preference is for the Southwest vicinity due to higher population and neighborhood density, but then again I'm someone who never grew up around farmland, and thus I feel a little out of place when I drive by a lot of it on a regular basis.

My generalizations of our neighborhoods are based on the musings of those who have lived in these areas for a long time, but Southwest/ Northwest are becoming more similar. My husband grew up in Leo, my best friend still lives there and knows people from all over town. I base many of my area characterizations on what she tells me.She's a level headed gal.
I got started on City -Data because our family was considering a transfer to Arizona, which we knew nothing about.I found all the opinions/arguments to be helpful, even if they were biased or inaccurate.
I genuinely want to help people, especially with school age kids, find their spot in Ft Wayne. It does not matter to me if they choose my area or not. Moving to a new area is full of unknowns, so I feel for these people trying to get it right the first time on choosing a neighborhood/ school system that they will feel comfortable with. If schools and kids were not a consideration, I would live in a big Victorian in West Central(near downtown) where my gay and artsy friends from college still live. There IS someplace for everyone!
