Correct... plus, FtW has also been named #1 and now #2 as best minor-league sports city in the country: Fort Wayne named No.2 minor-league sports city: Falling attendance at indoor football cited as reason for drop in ranking. | Sports & Recreation > Sports Business from AllBusiness.com

Aug. 25, 2009--Fort Wayne is no longer the defending champion, but finishing No. 2 is still very good in this poll. In an article published today, Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal ranked Fort Wayne as the country's No. 2 minor-league sports city behind Hershey-Harrisburg, Pa. Fort Wayne
was the top-ranked city in 2007 after coming in No. 7 in the magazine's initial survey in 2005. ...

Back on track - recently ate at place hadn't heard of before: Hartley's, on Fairfield... food, service, and decor all However, then after eating there, the next morning heard that they were closing Yet still, there are many non-chain places to eat at, to enjoy some very good/excellent food in FtW proper, and in the surrounding areas.

Tis a shame that one pro team brings in more revenue and exposure to a city than what 7 minor-league teams can.

Hell, when I was in 5th grade, I know that Harvester/International closed a plant up there or something. Our neighbors came for job transfers. Being in Indy, I don't hear much about Ft. Wayne, actually nothing at all really. How are the jobs up there? Was/Is Ft. Wayne a former Big-3 powerhouse?

I have been to Ft. Wayne once in my life, and it was to buy a computer from some guy. That was too long ago for me to remember the city. I drove past on a weekend trip to Michigan. I have actually wanted to visit Ft. Wayne, Evansville, Terre Haute, and maybe even S. Bend, to see what they have to offer. I have driven through Columbus, New Albany/Jeffersonville, and Lafayette, but none of the other larger, but smaller, cities in Indiana.

Three of four top employers are government? Ouch, that really isn't always a good thing. Thankfully IPFW is state funded, but the community schools and library are locally funded (well, the state recently took over some K-12 funding), which means property taxes. The more you cheer massive hiring of these types of entities, the more you cheer higher local taxation.
