I can see the creators leaving out the southern accent. From my experience people know very little about Indiana. Before I moved here and I told people I was moving to Indiana, I always the same response "Innn..di..annna????" Like I just told them I was moving to Mars. So I think if the creators threw in a southern accent, the viewers would be miffed.

I love Modern Family and basically watch The Middle because it comes on before hand. I like the characters but I feel they go over the top a tad which makes the show loose some of its uniqueness. It seems to always end with some bizarre over the top bit. I agree that someone needs to re study their geography because a trip up to Gary would be quite a haul. I am hoping that the writers relax a bit. I get this feeling they are trying to hard and that is what is going to kill the show... (shooow)

I'm guessing that they are near Bedford ... drving from Bedford up to gary and back would take 8 hours ... at least! not much time to see cheese and sausage. I guess for me, it stinks because the writers make it a point in every episode to make sure the viewers know that this is Indiana ... but that makes me even more angry when they get it SO WRONG. With their accents they should have set the show in northern indiana.

I agree. I also think they tend to make the characters look a little dumb verses quirky.

We love it and we are born and bred Hoosiers. The Axle character cracks us up - SUCH a typical teenager. And Sue is a recreation of myself in junior high. I don't worry about how it reflects Indiana...it's Hollywood. Colts seem to get a lot of press time though!

I like the show overall, but there are plenty of missteps. Besides the Warsaw location, does anyone remember in one of the first two episodes seeing them driving down a two lane road surrounded by farms....and out in the distance were mountains? I had to roll my eyes and said to myself "Gee, I didn't realize Indiana had tall mountains!) lol

Please, please, please let this be canceled. (What an asinine title, too.)

Regarding the lack of Southern accents despite the show's southern IN location - I think these things go in waves. Remember the days when they'd give characters from Wisconsin *Southern accents* (e.g., guest characters on Married with Children, etc.)?
