Trip report: Columbus, Brown Co./Nashville, Edinburgh
So yesterday we headed out to Brown County. We like taking trips ever so often to try new, local pizza places. We had read about a pizza place in Columbus, so we decided to tie that into the trip.
We headed out and I noticed that traffic on Sat. afternoon was pretty heavy on I-465 and 65 south in Indy. Once past Greenwood, traffic was minimal. Passed the Edinburgh Outlets exit and was surprised at how many cars in were in the parking lot. Appeared weekend business isn't doing too bad. Continued on to Nashville. Nashville was actually pretty busy. Around my neighborhood, the leaves are off the trees. Not being a leaf person, I didn't pay attention to the leaves on the trip, but my guess is that they were gone. I hear the crowds attack Brown Co. earlier, to see the colors.
So there is a decent crowd in Nashville, people actually shopping. One ice cream shop was busy, very busy at 2PMish. Other stores were busy, some were so-so. Got a few things for Christmas gifts. Wife said she heard on the news that Nashville is doing well despite the economy. I thought they might be hurting, but then realized that a co-worker had spent a week in Brown Co., cutting way back on vacation spending. I figure a lot more people are like him: Staying close to home, forgoing thousand dollar vacations away from home, opting to do more local weekend trips. Makes sense because just two weeks ago, we went to Metamora and it was packed..packed. So it appears the over-price trinket market isn't hurting that bad (though I heard that the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival didn't do well...so who knows).
After shopping, we to Brown Co. State Park. Park had some people in it. I don't go enough to say if it was busy or not. It is shocking to see scenery like that in Indiana. I am used to flat, very flat Indy area. I think I might start going down their more, doing some hiking on my own. It is a really neat area and I have not hiked Brown Co. SP for 15+ years?
We had been looking for some popcorn salt in Nashville, as we eat popcorn a lot and it is hard to find pure, flaky style popcorn salt in the stores. The popcorn shop in Nashville didn't have it for sale, nor did the one food/candy shop I thought would have it. As such, we recalled a popcorn store that is in downtown Edinburgh. We got their ad from the Nashville visitor's center, and headed up there. The store is called Not Just Popcorn. They have all kinds of flavored popcorn and she sells premium popcorn salt as well. You can taste various kinds (if they have it in stock) before you buy. I recommend stopping by or checking out their website:
notjustpopcorn.com They were busy as well, especially for a place in a small town.
We then drove back to Columbus. I really like Columbus. I would like to visit during the day and check out all the fancy designed buildings. We stopped at a place called Zwanzigz pizza. Very good. Their building is really neat, very clean awesome atmosphere.
Future trips include another trip to Metamora during the Christmas celebrations (they light the whole town with luminaries) and maybe back to Nashville. I was glad to see people out spending money in our few tourist areas. Hopefully this helps the Indiana economy.
