Ok I am currently getting unemployment from Indiana. I am on my first extension. Is there a second? The info on the web site is so confusing. It looks like there are like 3 or 4 extensions, but then said something about it ending after the first. IDK? Does anyone know how many extensions are currently in place for Indiana after you exaust your initial caim amount?

It is confusing, but this is what I found.

  • The original 13-week program, passed in July 2008, is now 20 weeks.
  • The new program, approved in November 2008, offers 13 additional benefit weeks for Hoosiers. Claimants who have exhausted their 26 weeks of state unemployment and 20 weeks of federal extended unemployment benefits are now eligible for up to an additional 13 weeks of federal unemployment payments.
  • The federal government enacted an up to 20 week extension of benefits on November 6. Any Hoosier who has previously exhausted either of the first two federal extensions of unemployment or state extended benefits and remains unemployed may be eligible to receive this new federal extension. Hoosiers currently collecting unemployment will be directed to this new extension automatically.
You should get in contact with your local Department of Workforce Development to see exactly where you are in terms of state vs. federally mandated benefits and how many extensions you can get.

The person above nailed all the vital stats. I'm getting unemployment and I'm on my 3rd extension. Before someone goes nuts calling me lazy I apply for 2 to 3 jobs a day just no luck. I can't live off of $8 hr part time 15-20 hours a week. Yeah there's a 2nd and 3rd extension and a $25 a week bonus not included with your benefits it's a seperate deposit. The $25 bonus is through 2009 but I still get the bonus in January i don't know when it really runs out. Hope this helped. God knows you can't call the unemploment office and get an answer.

Default Legal or ??

My employer is being bought out and I have been offered 2 weeks severance pay IF I sign a release to not file for unemployment benefits. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

OMG---pappy--that should be illegal. I'm taking a wild guess here, but over the long term, I suspect 2 weeks severance won't go far if you are unemployed for months. (I hope not, but I'm just looking at 6 months down the road.) The whole offer makes me mad for you!

I would only do it for 6 months to 2 years severance. Since severance is fully taxable, we always figured we got less than $16,000 out of $25,000 severance.

2 weeks is a joke and should not be taken seriously.
