Purdue University-Fort Wayne
Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into Fort Wayne's branch of Purdue University?

They don't call it Highway High for nothing. I'm joking. I actually know someone who is currently a student and loves it.

I don't know how hard it is to get into IPFW, but the school itself has never impressed me much. I tried to get into the prereq courses for nursing school years ago, and all I got was a major run around. I was an returning adult student, and they just didn't seem that interested in me. So, I ended up applying at Lutheran College (now part of St. Francis) and was accepted.
Best wishes wherever you end up!

While it's not hard to get into IPFW (I applied there and was accepted, but instead went elsewhere) you do have to worry about tuition increases like mad.
If you live in state you will have to pay 5% more this upcoming fall semester I do believe and if you live out of state it's 11% more.
Many people instead choose to go to Ivy Tech across the street. It's much cheaper, and you don't have to take as many unneeded classes for your degree. And you do get a first class education at Ivy Tech.

The nursing program is highly competitive at a lot colleges anymore. I would apply not only at IPFW, but at Ivy Tech too. (I think the Ft. Wayne campus has an RN program now too). University of St. Francis also has a nursing program, but it is very expensive!
Good luck.

Yes Ivy Tech Northeast has RN programs. And many people go to Ivy Tech for them. I knew 2 that dropped out of IPFW to go to Ivy Tech for their nursing.

I Can Help
It's really not that hard to get into IPFW. You will only get a Purdue degree if you minor in classes under their department. It's a really nice campus that is always expanding (which you pay for). They have many activities always going on for the young crowd but not too much for the older adults. There are many clubs of every interest that you could join.
However, it is costly and the price of tuition can go up almost yearly . As of now, it is around $680-700.00 for one class, 3 credit hours. They only have fast food chains that serve Coke products (vendor machines also). No Pepsi or MD here. LOL. I got my degree in elem. education and all I can say is that I wish I knew a way to get all of my money back because the education department does not prepare you for the teaching world or help you find a job . (Some other colleges set up interviews before you graduate.) It's pretty much, get your degree, thanks for your money, and good luck.
For some, it's a great college and I have lots of good memories from there. I will never forget a math teacher that took her personal time, no matter when I stepped in. A fine arts professor sat with me for over 40 minutes and just let me talk about my problems. I will never forget a lit. teacher who made old stories come to life and I couldn't wait for the next word to come out of her mouth. There are many good teachers there and it's a wonderful campus .
Come to your own conclusions. If you have anymore questions, write back . You can learn more by going to www.ipfw.edu.com

Online courses
Anyone know of any college in the surrounding areas that offers the majority of the Associates for RN online? I had someone tell me awhile back that a friend of theirs did all their classes online aside from the clinicals of course and obtained her RN that way. For the life of me I can't think of who told me and what college it was that she went through.

experience with IPFW
I went to IPFW and now attend Indiana University. Technically speaking there is no difference between degrees IU and IPFW except that your IPFW degree will not say your major it will only say B.S. or B.A. depending on your concentration. I do not know about the Purdue degrees as it is a Purdue Capus and the vast majority of degrees are from that school. Indiana's main satellite campus is IUPUI in Indy. I can tell you that if you have a nursing degree from either IUPUI or IPFW you will make significantly more and be moved ahead in the hiring process ahead of community colleges like IVY Tech or ITT Tech, etc. This is from having several friends graduate from IUPUI, IPFW, and IVY Tech. Also keep in mind that IPFW's entrance standards are among the easiest in the state. Recounting my experiences there; I have nothing but wonderful things to say about them. I would reccomend attending it for undergrad or possibly as a transfer student.....good luck in all your endeavors....
