Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ellie, I'm about 20 min. from Montpelier...assuming there's only one. Um, frankly, it's the most backwards, redneck, ssssssssllllllloooooooooowwwwwwww town around. There's a few rinkydink stores, a Frosty's (ice cream) a diner of some sort, a car wash, a Pizza King, and a bunch of run down houses with appliances and cars on blocks in the yards. I'm serious.
I try not to trash-talk towns, every place has something decent, but not Montpelier. They have a golf course - on a farm! I'm sorry, but I don't think it's what you're looking for.

Ellie, Montpelier is just south of a certain highway here that sort of divides the area - there's north of this hwy, and south. It's common knowledge that south of that hwy, things are a little different. Why are you looking to move to Montpelier? Maybe some other nearby towns would be better.

"It's common knowledge that south of that hwy, things are a little different"
I would love for you to expound - since I am on the east coast and Indiana is an 11 hour drive, nothing about Indiana is really common to us.
My husband is going to visit this area for a day but I don't think he is going to get an idea of the north/south differences.
Please feel free to Pm me if you would rather not openly state the difference.
Thanks

Montpelier
I lived in Montpelier for several years. It is a small midwestern town and keeps the pace as such. I also know that some people may refer to the residents as rednecks but they are actually humble and good hearted people who truly enjoy the simple life away from stip malls and traffic jams. I still visit occassionally and my 88 year old grandmother still lives there. It's not a thriving metropolis, but it has it's own endearing characteristics. Hartford City and/or Bluffton are north/south of Montpelier and may offer more.

Good hearted, no traffic jams, humble, a lack of strip malls . . . a farming community that likes things slower. . . none of these things are negative.
Gang shootings, child abductions, drunkens brawls, drug dealers, registered sex offenders . . now we consider those negatives in a small town.
I still don't understand the north /south of the highway issue?
Shanny since you lived there, would this be a good place for kids? I homeschool, my kids are between the ages of 7-13.
Any info would be great.

Sorry I took so long Elle, I've been gone for a long weekend. There are no gang shootings or child abductions. As for the drunks, dealers, and sex offenders, it wouldn't take me long to find them.
I guess I came down harder on Montp. than I thought. Good paying jobs aren't prevalent in town - most people commute to Bluffton (my town), Hartford City, or a few other small towns nearby.
Homeschooling would fit right it in this general area - there are lots of homeschoolers, and a few homeschool assocations around.
In regards to my comments about being north/south of the hwy, well, life is pretty slow here (pop. about 11,000, large farming community, good schools), life there in Montp....well, generally, people there are thought of as backwards and redneck...having junky properties, low paying jobs and such. I know I'm making generalizations and I apoligize Shanny.
