I will be transfering from West Virginia to work in Knox, Indiana Starke County this summer. What would be a good place to move my family ( two little girls) and still be within 25-30 minutes of Knox? I would like to stay in the Central time zone as well only because it would be less confusing and I wouldn't lose an hour after I left work. I have read good and bad things about living in Knox. I was thinking of living in between Knox and Michigan City somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

plymouth ... I'd look at Plymouth, but you'd have to switch time zones, but it would be worth it especially if schools are important.

I second that Plymouth Schools are excellent. I think you are going to want to stay away from Michigan City-LaPorte area. I don't want to sound discriminatory, but there is a lot of crime and corruption in some parts of those areas. Michigan City does have a very nice mall though. Plymouth will give you a tight-knit community, but it is limited in size.

My grandfather used to live in Knox; moved there in 1985 from Chicago to get away from the city. The best places within a reasonable distance are Michigan City, Merrilville (near Gary), Plymouth, Valparaiso and Logansport. Lafayette/W. Lafayette (Purdue U) and South Bend are a bit further, but the commute still isnt too bad. The good news is that Chicago is maybe an hour-and-a-half drive.
