Default Title and plates for used car

A bought a used car from a private seller in a nearby state. The seller is bringing the car and title on a truck. The bmv says bring the title and vehicle to them so they can have someone check car to make sure it matches with title. Fine. But I don't have a plate for the car. How can I get it to the BMV? Can I go with the title only and get a temp. tag, then return with the car to get a real plate? How does this work in Indiana? Thanks for the help.

I would think that it would be alright to drive the car to the BMV, and explain this if you get pulled over. Call the BMV and ask them what to do.

I answered my own question. According to BMV, call police, and they will come to your house to check vin with title, and give you a form to take to BMV...

that is indeed the correct procedure. I know someone who bought a brand new BMW from an out of state dealer and he drove it in Indiana just with paperwork and no plate. his new Beamer ended up being impounded by the West Lafayette police.
