My family is relocating to Bloomington, IN in the next 6 weeks - 2 months, depending on how long it takes to hammer out the relocation package, etc.

I would like some opinions on some fun areas, within the city or outside the city for a family of four plus 2 dogs. Also, is there a bully dog law in Bloomington? I am searching for an established neighborhood, hopefully with lots of architectural details, historic and safe. I would prefer to rent until we sell our current home which is under going some renovations, so selling may take a while. I don't mind being near some students, but I don't want to be up all night, and don't want to intrude on student living.

I have actually never visited Bloomington, but my husband travels there frequently for work. I have been looking around Bryan Park but not sure if that is the prime location. I do not want a new build subdivision!

Thank you for all of your help!

Also, do you know of anywhere to look for rentals that has more than student housing. Thanks!

The neighborhood for you is probably Elm Heights. Lots of Limestone houses, lots of character, good schools.

I don't believe Bloomington has a "dangerous dog" ordinance, but you may find some landlords/management companies reluctant to rent if your dog is a breed that falls into that category due to increased liability issues (leading to increased insurance costs).

I agree with Elm Heights. It's a beautiful neighborhood. Bryan Park is also nice with a strong neighborhood association and has undergone significant improvements in the past few years due to their efforts. However, you will encounter students renting in the area.
