Default Do you think a Meijer will ever come to Bloomington/Southern Indiana?

To me, at least, it seems very strange that they have not expanded their operations into Bloomington, Columbus, etc. with Bloomington in particular since it is a major university town. I've only been to one Meijer...the one in Richmond...but even with that short experience, I find it to be an amazing, well-run store.

Any thoughts? Have many tried to bring it to B-town but failed?

Thanks.

I have called Meijer to ask this very question! They said that they own or owned property in Taylorsville, but when the economy tanked, they put plans on opening a Meijer down here on hold. I'm hoping that with Atterbury expanding and adding 800 jobs, they will now reconsider.

I also bother Trader Joes and Costco to open stores in Greenwood ... then I'll be really happy!

There is one in Jeffersonville, IN. I find it to be average, but definitely not excellent. The prices are decent, but nothing spectacular.

I live in Northern Indiana, where Meijer is frequent. They actually have very good produce, however, their prices are average. They pride themselves on low prices but who doesn't. Obviously, they don't compare to Wal-Mart, but then again some people prefer to not shop at Wal-Mart because, well their produce isn't exactly the best quality. Also, the selection isn't the best sometimes.

As far as Meijer moving down South to southern Indiana, I only think it as inevitable. To my recent knowledge, no local Meijer's have done poorly. However, I wish the exterior of Meijer would be more customer friendly. I find their layout bland and poorly chosen. Anybody agree?

depends on the store really. They are the only ones who make fresh polish sausage the way we like it. And from what I understand, it's a good place to work.

I really liked their cafe area...they had a great selection and the quality of their products seemed way better than Walmart and edged out SuperTarget by a good bit. They also seemed to have a good natural/organic selection compared to other hypermarkets.

It just makes no sense to me why there isn't one in Bloomington, but there are multiple ones in Lafayette, Louisville, and even Urbana-Champaign and Bloomington, IL. You have a good sized college town with students who want to save money who are from all over Indiana and would go there in a heartbeat, especially if they are from N Indiana.

Sigh. lol

Meijer is already in southern Indiana (Jeffersonville)- which is only a few miles north of Louisville. The store is pretty crowded on the weekends.

That one doesn't really count, though, since the one in Jeffersonville is mainly an extension of their other stores in Louisville.

Are the only Costco's and Trader Joes on the northside?
