Indianapolis (crime, buying a house, neighborhoods)

I am hoping someone can tell me a little bit about neighborhoods. In particular Congress Avenue in indianapolis, IN Zip is 46208 I think. My husband is looking at buying a house there and I am wondering what the neighborhood might be like because the home is quite cheap. Any information would be great. Also what areas to avoid due to crime would help as well. Please and Thank you.

They are cheap for several reasons. This area is personally what I would call blighted. The houses were built many years ago and the renovation group has not hit it. The interstate (65) is uncomfortably close and in some cases right in the yard. You have no noise barrier. I think the interstate and entrances did a lot of damage to what might have been a nice neighborhood in earlier years.

I cannot speak to crime but I would not consider living there.

Do a mapquest for the address and you will see what I mean about the interstate. Personally I think it will be a long time before there is much improvement in this area.
