Thank you all for warm advices. I am looking for an apartment in south of Indianapolis. I am thinking about the following areas: Southdale, Buffalo Creek, Greenwood Place shopping center, which are on the west of Madison ave. How are these areas compared with Southport, Greenwood, which are on the east of Madison ave. Safety is my main concern.

The apartments I have in mind now are are: Thompson Village, Madison Village, and club at Buffalo Creek.

Any comments? THANKS

If you don't mind the little bit of extra distance from campus I'd rate Buffalo Creek at the top for it's convienence. You can be at the safest mall in town in five minutes.
Thompson Village second.
I have always liked Madison Village. I used to deliver mail there but Maidson Avenue just to the south (near Stop 11 Road) isn't going to appeal to you.
I think you are right in staying to the west of Madison Ave.
Have you seen these?

Thank you very much for your suggestions, Hapaleeretired.
I haven't seen these any of the apartments except for online pictures. I will be moving from another state. Some suggestions about the building, landscape, or the community are highly appreciated.
When you said the "safest shopping mall", were you referring to Greenwood Place shopping center?
Thanks again.

Negative, Greenwood Place Shopping Center is a strip shopping center on the corner of Stop 11 road and US31. One mile south of that and 1/2 mile east of Buffalo Creek is the Greenwood Park Mall.
You are very welcome.

I would say Buffalo Creek. Friends of mine used to live there; it was always very nice and very safe.

West of Madison Ave. will generally be a bit nicer, but it also depends quite a bit on how far north/south you are.

Greenwood Park Mall would be the ONLY mall in its town.

What Toxic Toast means is that it is the only mall in Greenwood. What I mean it is the safest mall in the Indianapolis area.
