Unbelievable. It's nice to know I am blessed with such a popular beach closeby.
have you ever gone boating on Lake Shafer? Freeman is nicer.

I have lived in INDIANAPOLIS for nearly five years and have never experienced any problems. There is crime in the city, but compared to a place like the Baltimore (where I lived for 12 years prior to moving to Indy), this area is alot safer. For instance, the homicide rate in Indy is approximately 100 per year (sometimes less), while the murder rate in Baltimore is approximately 275 per year. West Indy is a bit rough, but neighborhoods like Irvington and Fountain Square, for instance are nice. By the way, I live in fountain square which is only a couple of miles south of the downtown area. Sorry I don't have the exact crime stats for you, but if you exercise some common sense and don't ask for trouble (e.g. Leaving expensive items in your car in plain view) you will not have any problems here. And if you want to take a walk in the evening through your new home in Indy, generally you can do that; however it would be to your benefit to walk with a friend (I always do). Better safe than sorry and I hope I have been of some assistance to you. Good luck.

I haven't been murdered yet in Indy so I really don't think there's a problem with that.

Right, which is why I left Baltimore (nearly five years ago) in the first place. Indy is much safer than alot of other cities in the U.S.

Out of sight, out of mind right?Thats Milwaukee's attitude about blacks alright.Just let em rot away in poverty,(keeping them there through rampant discrimination in housing, jobs, loans, etc)while whites live the good life.

I've lived in the Indianapolis area 20 years and have worked in law enforcement here for thirteen. I've found that residents feelings about crime is extremely subjective, based on their upbringing, and history. Some people think dealing with crime is just a part of life.
Comparably, Indianapolis is safer than some cities it's size, but then I can also tell you that crimes like what happened in Newark, NJ are a possibility here also.
Yesterday, for example, there were nine calls for gunfire and two calls for people shot...very typical day. If you are used to that sort of thing, then you know under what conditions to avoid.
I will be starting a thread for a map of 911 calls in real time for Indianapolis/Marion County. Look for it and see for yourself. It will show you the last 20 or 30 police, fire, EMS runs in the city in real time.....

9 gunfire calls and 2 people shot doesn't sound like an horrific day. Some of those calls could have been about vehicles backfiring.
how many gunfire reports were there in Zionsville or in Carmel yesterday? I bet none.

You're right, not horrific, but typical. Last night, yesterday, five gun fire runs and three people shot...again, not horrific. But if you are not used to that sort of thing...could be horrific. I'll work it, but I refuse to live it.
I do weed out the possible veh backfiring, I only count the runs where reports were required due to damage etc.

I certainly don't blame you in the least for not wanting to live it. Just think what the Bronx must be like, or the south side of Chicago.
The only time I want to hear gun fire is during hunting season when I have a big buck with at least a 12 pt rack lined up in my sights.
