Default Cultural Diversity- Black/White

My family and I are looking into to moving to Downtown Indy or surrounding areas. I have read many threads on diversity. My question is the best towns to live in for mixed couples. I am white, my husband is black and we have 3 bi-racial children.Any help would be wonderful.

I hesitate to recommend areas. However if diversity in good public schools is important, you could look into the Washington Twp and Lawrence schools on the northside of the city. But the Hamilton SE schools and Carmel schools are also good.

And of those two, I would give the nod to Washington.

Thank you for all your help! You guys mentioned Warren and Washionton....how is the crime in that area? A good school is very important to us and so is diversity. We want our children surrounded by lot of different cultures.

Personally, I wouldn't consider Warren. Washington is more affluent, has less crime and would provide the diversity you desire.

Warren probably does have more crime, particularly in the inner belt (west of I-465), but it still has plenty of older good neighborhoods. The eastside of town does not get a great deal of love and definitely bore the brunt of plant closures, but it has as much diversity of as the north side of town. It is much less affluent, but you can take that however you like--it's also less elitist (none of the old money that one might find in Washington Township). Your kids will still get a good education in a diverse environment at Warren, while in Washington Twp they will get a phenomenal education and be around the children of very wealthy families.

Warren Township is not near as bad as the suburbanites will have you believe. It is not Fishers by any stretch, but it is not exactly Detroit either.

So this means ghetto, 'it isn't a big deal to have a baby before you are 15' cultural types as well...right? Surely you want some lower income diversity as well, as it would be wrong to want to avoid lower income, bad moral type individuals and still proclaim you support diversity. As such, I would recommend Warren Township. Plenty of white, black, and Hispanic kids. Plenty of rich, middle class, and ghetto kids.

What about ghetto, poor diversity? Don't poor people, single mothers with four kids by four different baby daddies count? Isn't it hateful to avoid schools with a moderate to large % of lower income students?

Warren Township is mixed. Section 8, middle class, and a slice of upper class/wealthy residents. I personally would want Warren Township, but others might be OK with the % of lower income students that attend the district.
