Hi I actually already live in Indy. I moved here at the end of Feb. for a job on the southside of town and only had a week to find an apartment. I'm really not satisfied with where I'm living. I have tried to do exhaustive research on the internet about where good apartments are located but I'm not having a lot of luck. This is my first job out of college so I don't have a lot of money to spend on rent but I can afford anything under $500/month. I am wondering if it is just the southside of town in general or if I'm just not looking in the right areas. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!! |

$500 per month is real low. I would haunt craigslist and keep checking.
If I were in your place right now just out of school and wanting to keep rent low, I would search for someone with a house that wants a roommate. They are all over because I had to look for a friend. Would keep costs down and you could save and wait till your life was settled. Again Craigslist and keep looking because telling friends and others might lead to that perfect little place that "just came open". Remember too that you have to kiss a lot of toads (keep working at it) before the perfect spot is found. |

I realize $500 is all you can afford and if that is it then that is it. But $500 would not be nearly be enough for me to find a place I'd be comfortable living. Maybe you should look into a roommate

There is an apartment complex just north of 56th street within minutes of where you would be working. They are pretty nice - not great, but I think they would be OK. For all that is good, DO NOT, go anywhere near Post road and 42nd street - don't even consider it for one second. I'll find the name of the apartment, give me a few minutes. I'm having trouble finding it - but I will. You should also stay very far away from the following complexes that are close to where you are going to be working. Don't even consider any of these - they are run down and have very high crime Cottages at Fall Creek Hunt Club Salen Courthouse The Orchard Stay away from those 4. Give me some more time to find the one that would be great location and pretty nice apartments |

OK, I found the place I was looking for.
It is called Harrison Place Apartments. It is right on 56th street an can't be more than a few minutes from where it sounds like you might be working Harrison Place Apartments Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other Indianapolis apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com They have two sections. One section is a conventional part, the other on the backside is single story individual units. With individual driveways and garages. Would be great for a family. Yes, DCMA is located at the Major General Emmett Bean Finance Center.
Here is a little background on it: Ft. Ben If you want, I will ask a buddy of mine about decent apartments in the area since he is a Lawrence cop. I will say though that do not get anything around Pendleton Pike and Post Road. There is a 7-11 on the corner that seems to get robbed once a month. Just a .25 mile down the road last month there was a gang related shooting in a trashy motel that left one dead and one with a gunshot to the head (who somehow survived). Then last week they found skeletal remains just a stones throw from that motel. I could go on but I think that you get the idea ![]() btw, I work at the finance center. When Sweetana stated it's a huge, huge building she was not joking. Supposedly, only the Pentagon is larger in regards to square foot under one roof owned by the federal government. |

I grew up in az, and have been through the northern part of indiana, and I liked it, and i met a man once who lived in the southern part, and his wife didn't like it but he loved it. I do believe that there is something wrong with Indianapolis, but that is only from watching america's funniest home videos. Pick the right town, and you might like it. Az sucks so its hard to go too far wrong, just visit first if you can, and if not, move if you dont like it once you get there. Illinois, not Chicago, is really great from what I gather.

Is Lawrence a bad area in general or just certain parts of it? I may have you ask your friend once we find out if he gets the job. I may be jumping the gun. I like to plan ahead if possible. His interview is Tuesday. Well I guess go ahead and ask him. Then I can know where to look. Hopefully my husband will get the job. I do appreciate everyones input so far. Also I don't hate AZ, I actually like it here. We are just opening up our horizons on the job front. As I've mentioned before we have lived out here for 10 years. Before that I lived in Columbus, Ohio. I lived there my whole life.
