Just like Indy, there are areas to avoid. They may have a decreasing value housing stock (old and run down), problems with gangs and crime, etc. Our areas are so big, that it is almost impossible to generalize. But the fact he may be working in Lawrence opens up so many possibilities for town or rural living that will not require a long commute and gives you better access to some terrific neighborhoods and school districts that it is great.

Some of the newer posts on moving to Indy have good info on schools and parks. Some friends of ours used Hamilton SE schools and I was in wonder at the education her 3 sons got. They have or are graduating from college. The last one did loads of independent study while at HSE and is headed to grad school now after a terrific education at Butler. HSE had on and off issues with funding of AP classes but he worked with the school and his teachers while in HS to provide that little additonal work and education. Sometimes you just have to ask.

Also I don't hate AZ, I actually like it here. We are just opening up our horizons on the job front. As I've mentioned before we have lived out here for 10 years. Before that I lived in Columbus, Ohio. I lived there my whole life.
There are some really, really nice areas of Lawrence and some really bad areas. The area right around 56th street is on the border of a nice area and bad area. The further south you go the worse it gets, the further north you go the better it gets.

There is also an apartment complex near Geist reservior that is nice and it is in a nicer neighborhood. I'll get the name for you. Drive to 56th street is maybe 10-15 minutes

Tell us how the interview went. (Of course if he gets the job and you do move to Indy, we all expect to be invited over for a housewarming party after you move)

The interview went well. It's really hard to know if they were impressed or not. Now just the waiting game. I guess they had 11 candidates to interview. The interviewing was done on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm not sure how many openings there are. So when we hear something I'll let you know!

It is the government you know. Once I waited over 4 months. Once I got a letter that I did not qualify for the grade (multi grade job) but was already on board at the job at that grade. Personnel at our agency is not what it once was. The centralized it and it got worse instead of better.

Now everytime something happens, there seems to be a delay or screw up and we have 100,000 employees.

Default Just for fun

Hi guys. While waiting for a response I'm just looking for the heck of it at some apartments. Do you know anything about a place called Chateau in the Woods? It's address is 4020 Monaco Dr 46220. I checked Apartment Ratings site and it got mixed reviews. The apartment I was looking at is big, 1,590 sf. It was reasonably priced but not so low I was leary of it. Anyone heard of this place?

I have my hair done at 62nd and Allisonville, just north of there. I believe it is close to Kessler and Allisonville. Older and stable. I think they would be pretty standard apartments of the 70s vintage. Good access to the shopping on Keystone (plenty of groceries, doctor, dentist, library only a very short drive away. Not a walking area and Allisonville is busy during rush hour.

But check the schools very carefully. Depends on which one pulls from this area because you definintely dont want to be pulled south from here for a school. Now if the elementary school is at Keystone and Kessler you will be close and the kids mostly come from Broad Ripple and surrounding areas. But check carefully.

I would be very careful south of Kessler. Check Mapquest. Some of the apartment compexes south and west are having issues with crime

There are four or five complexes in the area you are looking at. Off 62nd, at 56th and Allisonville, off keystone north of 62nd. With any you would be pretty central. But if husband is going to work at the Finance Center, I would be nicer to him and check out Lawrence and suburbs first. He will have more time with the family (and will love the short commute)and there are large numbers of homes/apartments there and easier to live close while looking. Just my opinion. Also you will not have to deal with IPS schools and maybe get an apartment where you might buy. Much easier for kids.

Thanks sweetana. What part of town is Lawrence considered? Also the suburbs. The apartment book I have is divided into sections like North, Northeast, Northwest etc. Which section should I look in? Sorry I know nothing of Indianapolis. I appreciate your help! I hope this is not all for nothing. I have trouble waiting! Also you are right about the government. Sometimes it takes forever to hear anything.
