Normal people drink and drive, should everyone else do the same? What is it with you pro-taxation types that you demand 100% conformity to your view of how things should be. If you folks want to tax others for the benefit of yourselves, fine, just don't get all bent when some people choose to take another path.

I don't care about what other people should do; I care about what they do do.

When did anyone on this board command 100% conformity to anything? No one here is asserting authority for you to defer to them. Are you serious?

You can take whatever paths you'd like to take. Just don't get all bent out of shape when someone points out the irony or hypocrisy of those "paths."

OK, then why do you see my actions as a "problem?" Why do you consider me abnormal for not paying the tax? Yea, you don't come out and say it, but it basically sounds like anyone that doesn't bow down and pay the tax gets called names. Conform and pay your taxes, and then you consider the person "normal."

Because the only thing that's abnormal is your belief that you're not paying the tax. The tax man gets theirs. The person being shafted is your server.

Look, I'm fine with you being against the stadium/convention center tax. But state your mind by voting against your local elected officials who voted in favor of the tax. Boycott the Colts, if you wish. Trash Mitch Daniels and Luke Kenley, who came up with the idea. But to take your angst out on some poor server who had nothing to do with the implementation of the tax (and may even agree with you philosophically) defies rationality and morality (although maybe not in the warped Church of Ravekid). Deducting the extra tax from the server's tip doesn't show you to be some principled conservative. It only shows you to be a major douchenozzle.

What I see is irrelevant. It's quite obvious that anything tax-related bothers you. Otherwise, you wouldn't obsess about it. The vast majority of your posts deal with this.

No one has to call you anything. Indeed, I believe the types of sentiment your posts generate around here is self-explanatory.

Paying taxes is not a conformity, it is a requirement. You can't just bend the rules whenever it's convenient for you.

I took your advice DrEarth and took a ride out there. Sad place. It's just sad to see, what I understand, was a vibrant middle class city with well paying automotive and industrial jobs become as I saw it about 10 days ago.
So many empty retail locations and run down buildings and homes.
As always thanks for the accurate advice and input.

I was there for the first time in almost 40 years last summer. One of my elementary schools had been converted to a community center. Another had been razed. They closed Highland HS which had a great band with its trademark kilts that had won state and marched in parades around the country. Only Anderson HS remains of Highland, Madison Hts. and Anderson. They closed a bunch of elementaries last year and are down to 5. There had to have been around 20 or so when I was there. Pendleton in the far south part of the county was showing some signs of life, apparently as an Indianapolis suburb. But much of the county seemed to be converting back to cornfields. I-69 runs just a little too far to the east of the core of town for Anderson to thrive as a suburb. Downtown wasn't bad, but there wasn't much going on. The highlight seemed to be the Colts practicing at Anderson College. Fisher auto parts and Delco Remy shed tens of thousands of good union jobs over the decades. I think there was another major plant that shut as well.
