Default relocation to Irvington

I am relocating to the Indianapolis area. The area I'm looking into is Irvington. It seems relatively cheap and nice (in pictures). I was just curious if it's a dangerous area. I know I'm not being very specific. Any kind of general information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Everybody have a good night.

Specific areas of Irvington are very nice. The people have generally lived there a long time. However, there is crime (dont walk around some areas after dark or late at night). Some areas along Washington Street are a problem. Shopping is a drive away. Schools are generally IPS (not always as the outer east belt are Warren Township.)

Quality is very dependent on the exact street and address. On a home tour we visited a $500,000 house right next to some small worker bungalows.

I was hoping to find a house to rent, but it seems like its nothing but apartments. I'm kind of iffy living in apartments b/c I have dogs. Any suggestions? doesnt have to particularly be Irvington, but I was wanting to stay close to work which is on the East side (North of I-70). Thanks in advance!

Actually, Irvington is mostly houses, but there are a lot of apartments along Washington Street. I lived there a few years ago and liked it. It is an old school Indianapolis community with personality and history.

Use caution with renting apartments in that area. The closer to downtown you get, the more likely you are to live in complexes that I know some really weird, strange, and odd people live in. You need to check the sex offender databases as well (hint, hint) the CrimeView Community Incident Map.
