We are moving to Carmel. While house hunting we found many houses has water softeners, though not the one we bought. Reading the Carmel water report, it says the water is 'softened' through the city system.
1. Do we need a water softener in Carmel?
2. If so which one do you have? Recommendations?
Thanks, Sam

Less a softener and more like a ro system. The water is soft but leaves floatees in your ice

I didn't know that they soften the water before delivering it in Carmel. Everybody I know in Carmel has hard water, in any event it would be wise to supplement the municipality's water-softening system with a system of your own. I recommend the Scalewatcher 3 star. Since we installed it all the scale in shower heads is gone and our heater started heating the water faster. My husband installed it in 20 minutes and it doesn't use any salt. We got ours at Aquagenesisusa.com

You definitely need a softener, without question. Even with a softener, we get hard water stains on the shower and faucets if they are not cleaned more often than once a week.

Thanks for your post Peoplelover! Do you mind sharing the name of your system? We are in Avon and need a new system. Thanks!

Yeah, I don't care what Carmel Utilities says about the water being softened, you still need a water softener around here or, better yet, a RO system. This is pretty much the case throughout all of Central Indiana.

We live in Carmel and have a water softener, we use AquaSystems and have no problems so far. Costco sells a system for I thnk $400 but you have to install yourself. Not sure how good this one is. For what it's worth, be careful of the "no-salt required" type of systems, or the ones that use magnets or whatever, they do not work. You can't get those minerals out of the water "magically", they have to go somewhere.
