There are homes with basements in your price range, but you're right, they aren't on every house. I just pulled up all active listings in Avon schools with a basement between $150,000 and $210,000 and there were only 24.

Besides Avon, I would look at Plainfield, Brownsburg, and on the south side of Indy like in Greenwood.

Default new construction basements

You could check out Camby, IN. There is a big community called Heartland Crossing. It is literally 10 minutes from the airport via the Ameriplex Expressway. There are several counties so there are
& a few different school districts and price ranges. It is broken down into several smaller communities with different price ranges. There is a custom section near The Links Golf Course and some lower end homes closer to the retail area. Ryan Homes is building new construction there and they offer basements and they are priced in the middle.

How are taxes IN Avon? What about IN in general? Sales tax and income tax? I already pay tax on my vehicles in KY so I am used to that. What about local income tax?

I have been checking out the above mentioned towns. I see what looks like good prices, I just hate to not have a basement.

Taxes depend on the house and whether or not people have their exemptions filed. Property taxes are capped at 1% of the property's assessed value. So, for a house assessed at $200,000, your taxes would be capped at $2,000 per year.

Smile house near airport

Airport is now in Hendricks County, the closest is going to be Plainfield and their are some great communities out here. Schools are good also. Avon and Brownsburg are close also and have great schools too.

I have spent a lot of time the last week or so scouring different real estate listing (i.e. realtor.com, Zillow.com, craigslist) It is hard to find a ranch with a basement under $200k. Does anyone know a free way to find foreclosures? I am headed up to Indy tomorrow for an interview. I am going to try to drive around the areas listed above. From everything I have read on these forums and been able to research, any of them should be good places to raise my family. One friend of mine thinks Avon traffic is too bad. That's the only negative I have heard, so that's not bad.

Any other advice is welcome. Hopefully I will have to make a decision soon.

Thanks

Foreclosures, bank owned homes and short sales are all listed on the MLS in our area just like any other house. They are all mixed in. I do not know if the info is made public or if it's just what Realtors can see. Just ask your agent about them.

No, traffic in Avon is fine. The only part of this city where I would consider traffic to be unbearable is in Fishers on I-69 during the AM rush hour. It does seem hard to find ranches for under $200k, but for foreclosures your best bet is to just get a realtor.

As a current Fishers resident but former westsider who lived off of Rockville Road, I must disagree. Westside traffic can be underrated. That side of 465, at least before the widening, used to run really slow at times.

That said, if one is living in Avon but commuting to the airport, there are routes that would allow you to avoid much of the traffic.
