While at home in downtown Indy, I commented on the howling wind that was the first thing that came before the rain. I got up to check on the tree and to see what was going on.

I understand why the fair reopened. There are hundreds of people from 4H kids to exhibitors with animals that are there for showing. Hundreds of vendors who count on the work they get from the fair. We should not make the tragedy any worse than it already is.

I went to the fair yesterday evening with family and friends.

The vendors were counting on the income from the fair, and even closing one day meant they took a financial hit.

The 4H kids had time and money invested in their animals, and they deserve to be able to continue to show them.

Canceling the rest of the fair would not erase the tragedy or bring the people back. The day was started with a memorial service for the ones who died.

The State Fair will have free admission this evening and all day tomorrow. Attendance has been light all week, and hopefully this will help out the vendors.

There should be some heads rolling over what happened, including the failure to warn.

There were also some recent stage failures up in Canada. We also saw an elevated platform topple over during strong winds at Notre Dame last fall and a student was killed.
