Best of luck to you neb... I know it's tough, but try to keep your head up and look to the future.
Give yourself a goal.
Choose something you want very badly, get a picture of it and paste it on your mirror.
Look at it everyday and tell yourself that it will be yours soon.

And one more thing... Never let them see you sweat!
Good luck and best wishes!

Trader,

Thanks for the good words, but I have no goal because I cannot find work in my field. I am virtually at the level of minimum wage when I walk out of my field.

There really isn't anything I really want. I have found if I want something, I cannot have it, so I just don't want anything.

I could paste a Mercedes on my mirror, and that doesn't mean the economy will change and open up jobs for me.
I'm very aggressive about finding jobs. I have worked very hard in my field. Very much a self learner, 2 degrees now.
But I can't make it here. You have to know someone.

Neb, as long as I've been around and that's some 60+ years, it's always been 'ya have to know someone'. The economy is not the issue. Your taking a minimum wage job is not the issue. Finding work in your field is not the issue.

It's ALL about attitude. It's ALL about formulating a goal. It's ALL about blocking out those 'bad' external forces and focusing on your goal. Your goal is the ONLY think you should be thinking about... not the state of the economy, not being sore about your situation, and not about what you've done in the past. Focus! Focus on the goal you choose! Focus every minute of everyday! And keep moving... don't allow yourself to stagnate or dawdle about. Idleness is the devels playground ya know - stay busy.
Keep your head up and GO!
You can do it!

hmm...I don't know what you're getting at here, outside of fairy dust. It IS about finding a job using your skills and credentials. The economy IS a big issue because it has affected the number of jobs and applicants out there.

The "goal" is to support myself and not go in the hole. That's "the goal".

I have no idea for any real business. Most people work in an industry for about 5 years and learn all they can about it, before they decide to go into it for themselves. Most startups fail, or fail to turn a profit for about 5 years.
You have to have a product or service with a need, and a good knowledge about that product or service.
You said "prove that the profit and demand is there for your business idea"...it is more about the bank being able to repossess when you don't succeed. An idea or prototype or new ventures don't do well when banks have noting to repossess. Say you have a dress shop and you go belly up, the bank can take your dresses since they are worth something.
It is very hard to prove you are going to turn a profit in any business.
I need money right now. I am going to have to take a job for someone undeducated and become very poor with no insurance.
The big ambiguous walk into job with benefits doesn't exist anymore.
Not true Neb...when I say prove a demand and profit, this is the main qualifying criteria the SBA looks at....if you do the research and go to them with a well written and documented business plan that shows that you plan to open ABC company that offers XYZ goods or services, and formulate what the costs of those goods or services would be based off of fair market value, and that the demand is there based off of other companies, or lack there of, that provide the same or simililar product, you stand a very good shot of being approved for a SBA loan. The goverment encourages people to start their own businesses, it helps to stimulate the economy and create new jobs.....sure your current debt and credit will paly some role, but more importantly is your ability to prove that you have a winning business idea. It is easier than you might think, and worth looking into if you were serious when you said "if I had the money I would start my own business". People do it all the time...don't discount it untill you look into it further. Google SBA and go to their website, you will find a ton of information there. Your right, it is harder to find good jobs with bennefits....even more reason to become self employed, write your own ticket, and take charge of your own destiny.

Give me an idea for a business. It would help if it was something I knew something about. Like sales, you do well when you know your product really well, and really believe in it.
I don't have a clue what to start a business in.

And nothing like a diaper cleaning business or babysitting. I need a real viable steady income with benefits.

And a sure thing, so I can get the loan and be successful. I have a family to support. Thanks!

Thumbs up Carmel

Just registered - hope I'm doing it right.

I was raised very poor and worked my way up the ladder in the warehouse. When I moved to Carmel 2 years ago I was scared to death that the neighbors would be pompous because of the rumors. When I got here my basement flooded and my neighbors came over with dry-vacs and carpet cleaners to help me. One guy got out of his suit into shorts, put it back on and went to a meeting, and came back to help later.

I have received similar kindness from most of the native "Carmelites" and feel bad that I judged them without really knowing. The people here treat others much better than the 20+ places I have lived in Indianapolis.

Originally named Bethlehem, the people really embrace caring like the original Carmelites. Glad to be a part of it.
