The growth in Indianapolis seems to be going at a good rate right now. Overall, I like the city because you can have AFFORDABLE fun, easy to get around (if you have a car) and I would have no problem affording to live in a decent place in just about anywhere in the metro. Also pretty much all of the suburban school districts are great as well as a few of the township systems. Personally, if I were to move to the area, I would move to the Meridian Hills/Williams Creek area or to the village area of Zionsville.

The one bad thing about the Indianapolis area is that much of the new construction is low-quality vinyl villages. Now, I am not saying that all of the SFH construction has to be custom built (heck, Carmel even has a couple vinyl villages) but when rapid growth like this happens, these types of slapped together, no-variation-in-style homes get put up. This does not help with resale value. There is a mentality in Indianapolis (that also exists in much of Texas as well) that newer is always better. I have heard so many people say that they CANNOT afford to buy a house in Carmel because it is SOO expensive but in reality they can. What they may really mean is that they cannot afford a BRAND NEW home. Many people here believe that 5 years old is OOOLLLLD, and for a given area, they may be right. But this is just my observation (that has been confirmed by friends in the area).

As far as mass transit, we all know it is not Indianapolis's strong point. And while I do advocate for some type of rail transit (like a Fishers to Greenwood commuter line -- btw, the actual rail already exists!) I do not see it happening in the near future. I think an airport to downtown light rail line would be a very good investment for Indy as well.
