Default Leave Indianapolis for Chicago? (hipsterish, single, youth life, college, dating)

I'll be turning 21 soon, and and currently attend IUPUI. I'm single, and I've lived in the Indianapolis metro area my entire life. I'm not very happy here at the moment, and never really have been here. I have had quite a bit of difficulty finding and meeting people my age. I also find that there isn't really much to do here and I am always going to Chicago for things like concerts anyways.

I don't really have anything tieing me down at the moment and am able to transfer to a school in the Chicago area. I am in love with that city and have been there over 50 times. At this point I have two options that I am considering.

1. Stay in the Indianapolis metro area, and move to Broad Ripple (which is an area I've always liked) and be able to buy a huge house there, because Indy housing so cheap, and now is the best time to buy.

2. Move to Chicago, my dream city. (I like it more than NYC, and I've been to almost every east coast city) live in an apartment/2-flat/3-flat in a vibrant neighborhood such as Logan Square/Bucktown/Wicker Park, because I can't afford to buy a house there. (likely miss out on the best time to buy real estate) I feel like I'd never get bored there and I'd be like a tourist in my own city. Have so many opportunities to meet people. My living quarters would change drastically from what I'm used to here, and I'd have to downsize/put a few things in storage. Also I have a dog so that might be a little more difficult there.

Well, honestly, it sounds like you are just needing an excuse to leave Indianapolis. Same concerts in Chicago are the same concerts in Indianapolis or any other Major US city as they are all on the national concert circuit. If you have a hard time getting out elsewhere in the metro and have a hard time meeting people your age, odds are that won't change unless you become more outgoing, people just don't fall out of the woodwork no matter what city you live in. This isn't an aged population city. There are plenty of young people in the city. As far as getting bored. Everyone gets bored at some point, regardless of whether its Indianapolis or New York. That's just part of life.

Irregardless, if you want to leave, leave, you don't have to make up a reason to do it. If you want to live anywhere, you are a US citizen and have the right to do so and not have to offer anyone a reason why.

Typical response from a "regional" city poster.

Indianapolis, is basically the same as Chicago or New York. That ideology is prevalent there (same as some other mid-sized midwestern cities). That's probably enough reason for wanting to move right there. Living in a mid-sized/bigger city that has convinced itself its on par with NY, LA, or Chicago. Followed by the standard, "you're the problem, this city has so much to offer and you don't even know it".

I've lived in a similar city, and people do get upset when you express interest in wanting to move. It only seems to happen with cities that are big, yet still not nationally known or thought of.

Has Chicago hosted a Super Bowl? No
Indianapolis has this years Super Bowl 46.

After reading your article i have noticed you say theres nothing to do. There is plenty to do in Indy.
heck i personally went to the Circle of Lights festival this evening.
There is plenty of stuff to do in Indy and one thing that you need to realize is having this closed mind and saying Chicago is better than Indy etc. won't get you far.
I have always noticed the people that don't like Indy or anything about Indiana are always negative people.
I recommend option #1 move to Broadripple get out of the house open your mind up theres plenty to do
Here if it helps take a look at this website: Official Tourism Site of Indianapolis | Visit Indy
As others have said that moved to Indianapolis from Chicago theres somethings youll miss from Chicago but dreaming about them and dreading them doesn't help your situation at all. Overall when your out of college and getting a girl and settling down Indianapolis is perfect for young families due to our low cost of living/housing and taxes etc.

Also there is plenty of a nightlife in Indianapolis heck were the 12th largest city in the US and theres obiviously Broad Ripple/Mass Ave and Fountain Square.

Indy is doing alot of things for a city/metro its size. Our Neighborhoods are very much up and coming and we are steadly growing our image as a top-tier city that being said to compare indianpolis to Chicago or any other established world class city is naive to say the least.

Uhh, what makes you think I'm from Indianapolis? I'm not. I'm more than very familiar with both locales. You should stick to something you know, which definitely isn't the Midwest. You make crazy assertions with nothing of substance to back them up. You try to make up these insane definitions and try to pigeonhole every place that "you" don't like into them even when person after person has ripped your posts to shreds with sound logic and data.

When I was the OP's age, I wanted nothing more than to experience Chicago city living. I wanted THE EXPERIENCE. Born, raised and educated in this state. no big complaints other than the fact that I wanted to see what Chicago was like as a resident and not a visitor.

BRG ... Didn't you move here from the city?

I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. I lived near Wrigley, a couple blocks from the Hancock building and in three suburbs ... whether or not city hosts a superbowl is irrelevant in making a relocation choice. Chicago will never get a superbowl .. Big deal. They don't need it, people will still move there.

OP, if you are going to do this, do it now. Indiana will always be here if you want to come back. Go have your adventure.

left a Suburb of Chicago. Not the biggest nightlife person in all honesty.
Now Granted Chicago isn't Indy and vice versa so to the OP if your expecting Chicago nightlife in Indy then theres a problem with that.
But saying there is nothing to do in Indy is just plain negativity that isn't true.

In all honestly, that's an age thing. I felt the same way when I was her age ... once I was degreed, there was nothing keeping me here and I craved a different atmosphere where I could make my own way. Again, it's an age thing. When I was 25, I needed to get out in the world and truly be on my own without family.

I say GO!!!! Have a great adventure!!!! I'd be happy to share my experiences because it was FUN!
