Moving! :)
We're headed to Indy in the next few weeks to settle. We've been down last week and checked out housing/areas we'd like to live. My husband's job will be in Carmel. I've called about houses at Realtors and through the Indy-Star to rent but am not having much luck. Am I possibly missing another 'source' to search for rental properties? We will be down on Thursday late afternoon through Saturday dinner time and hope to secure a rental house.
Stress!

I would check out craigslist.com - if you are looking for houses to rent.
here is the link. indianapolis apts/housing for rent classifieds - craigslist
Looks like there are a couple of possibilities right now. The one near Castleton isn't too far from Carmel. - depending on where in Carmel your husband works. Of course you need to make sure the school district is what you want

What are you looking for? I know of a house that's a rental in my old neighborhood in Fishers. 4br, but no basement. It's actually across the street from my house that we sold in June. I'll pm you the particulars if you would like.

Thank you for your reply. I've been trying Craigslist as well. His job is in town there. I don't know that we saw Castleton when we were down a week and a half ago. We've found a few houses off the multi-list and such. I just didn't know if it's me or if I was doing something wrong. LOL We'll be down and hopefully can talk to a Realtor or something to show us a few on Fri/Sat.

Is there an advantage to having a house with a basement vs. house without one? I see that often as a selling point on realty sites, but being an out-of-towner, I'm not sure what the big deal is. Thanks.

Homes with basements tend to sell quicker. Plus, they are nice for storage or finishing for more living space. I know that we have so much crap, we could never live in a house without a basement ... and since we have these pesky tornado warnings every now and then, it's nice to be able to have a place to hid in.

I agree with you. This will be our first house in a while without a basement.
We're moving TOMORROW! Holy cow that came fast! (Btw...thank you for all your help!)

Welcome to central indiana
indianapolis is a tough town.. i'd advise you to try commuting a small distance since there are many highways allowing easy access. I've lived in this area all my life and i still dread indianapolis because of it's high murder rate. trust me when i say it is worth a 30 minute drive to commute..YOU LIVE LONGER!!!
look at realestate sites.... i know my house i listed with a possible land contract even though I'd help the buyers(if asked). Property here is low and renting is more expensive then owning..for example..
renting a 2-3 bedroom apartment $600
buying a 3 bedroom / 2 bathroom house like mine at $65k..$650/month after taxes and insurance.. 1 acre yard, neighbor over 100 ft away, pool you dont share, lake you will share when completed..lol no water bill, no sewage bill, and no high natural gas prices. and if you want a 2 bedroom house you can go even cheaper.... gl and please if you live in indianapolis buy body armor and dont let your kids play outside.

Hamilton County rental homes websites
MIBOR | Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORSĀ®
Select "find a property" then select Hamilton County and at the top of the page select "Property Type" which would be "residential lease"
Select "Clay" township for Carmel or "Deleware or Fall Creek" for Fishers, and "Washington" for Westfield.
Filter all selected criteria, including price per month, bedrooms, basement y/n, etc. This should pull up a large listing of rentals in Carmel, or whatever area you choose.
