Default On business for 2 months. what to do in Indy?

Hello all,

I will be in Indianapolis for business for 2 months while living out of the Hampton inn on South Meridian St.

Any recommendations of where to spend my time on the weekends? I will not have a car at my immediate disposal.

I'm already feeling extremely homesick and I haven't even left yet . i'm a 29 y/o active male from new york city. I'm excited to experience this midwestern city and do not know what to expect.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Dude, you need to get some wheels .. but if you come here with a feeling of dread already, it will be the worst 2 months of your life. You'll be downtown. There's stuff to do .. bars, maybe you can see a Pacers game, the Indiana high school basketball state tournament is right around the corner. The weather has been very reasonable this winter. Most of your brothers and sisters from NYC seemed to have a great time in Indy for the Super Bowl.

Not sure what you mean by active. If you are a runner, there's places to run along the canal and downtown too .. much easier to jog here than in Manhattan.

But please don't come here with a whoa as me attitude. We can't help you with that.

Well, I'd check out your surroundings the first weekend. You'll find downtown very walkable/runable. I'm assuming that you'll know some folks you'll be working with. Trust me, you'll get suggestions/invitations from colleagues! As far as splurging for a car rental ... you could take a drive down to Bloomington/IU for the day, always fun. You could explore Brown County State Park. come visit us down in Columbus ... hmmmm ... go have a tour of the Indianapolis 500.

When are you going to be here? DM it to me if you don't want it to be PK.

You will be in a good spot. Be sure to take in White River State Park. Great museums. Since you are a runner, downtown will be a good spot. Public transportation sucks but the good thing is all but 1 bus actually makes its way to Ohio Street. You can make your way up to Butler, check out a show at Clowes or take a nice trip around Holcomb Gardens. It's a 10 minute walk from campus to IMA and be sure to check out 100 acres. Like Domer said, if you can get access to a car, a trip down to Brown County would be great or Bloomington. Parke County also not too far away has the most covered bridges in the nation and you would enjoy it. You can also head north to Lafayette and Purdue or hit quaint downtown Zionsville a little NW of the city You'll be able to find a bevy of food downtown as the majority of the restaurants are actually local. Nice little moraccan restaurant on Mass Ave and a nice Turkish cafe in Fletcher Place downtown or cross under into fountain square for some duck pin bowling and stop at Santorini's, probably one of the best Greek restaurants you can have. There's also a nice up and coming area on 38th with a lot of international flavor as well as on the NE side. Of course, check out IMS and there are some fast goKarts at places like Fast Times or down in Whiteland, if you are into that. Dead north in Hamilton county you can hit Connor Prairie and Carmel. There are two horse racing tracks, one in Anderson and the other in Shelbyville East of the city that also houses Indiana Live Casino.

Weather is very nice and mild in the spring.
Summers are similar to NYC except probably less rain.
Also its cooler too due to NYC's Urban Heat Island effect.
Temperatures in summer range from mid 80s to low 90s.
100 degrees in Indianapolis is a record so keep that in mind
did hit i last year and before that we have to go back to the 1980s to experiance heat that bad again
All in all i enjoy Indianapolis's summers especially compared to the south where it stays in the 90s all summer with high humidity which is a killer.
