I'm a big pizza fan and have travelled quite a few places for no other reason than to eat the local specialty. St. Louis style is by far the worst of all the styles I've tried. I suppose if one grew up eating nothing but that style they'd defend it but the provel cheese blend is bad enough to turn your stomach. On the other side is Detroit-style, which I believe is the most underrated style in the US. Buddy's Pizza in Detroit is the place to go and you'll never be disappointed. And strangely enough in Austin, TX of all places there is a pizza trailer called Via 313 that also serves up fantastic Detroit pies.

Great...I'm hungry now!

I've not tried Detroit style yet But when I am up in the motor city I will have to get some. It looks so good. I tried IMO's St Louis style. The pizza for thin crust was pretty good but the best item they had on their menu was the 'toasted' ravioli.

Lou Malnati's up in Chicago ships there frozen pizzas around the country but no way would I ever pay that much for pizza. 60 to a hundred dollars. Indy has a pretty good selection so there is no need for me to travel far.

Chicago style:

Nancy's Fisher's
Union Jacks Crawfordsville Rd near Speedway
Chicago's Pizza (13 locations)
UNO's off I-65 Southport exit just south of I-465

Because of all the hype about Nancy's, I swung by there after a basketball game earlier today. Unfortunately it was closed and the sign said it would not open until 4 pm. All I got of Nancy's was a stale whiff.

I'm a big fan of deep dish. Recently, I had Lou's and Gino's East in Chicago. Unfortunately, those aren't in Indy. However, Indy does have a good selection. I need to try Nancy's when my girlfriend comes to town to see what the rave is all about.

Other great Midwestern style pizzas to consider

St Louis style St. Louis-style pizza - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Detroit style Detroit-style pizza - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I read the wiki write up for Detroit Style. Industrial pans eh? That makes sense. Do they also use Motor Oil in place of Olive Oil? And nuts and bolts for toppings? Never heard of it until now. Has to be better than that awful St. Louis style though.

Yep, I'd put Detroit-style high up on my list of favorites right now. Just fantastic.

The Gino's East frozen pizza's that Marsh are superior to every Chicago-style pie I've had in this city and I've tried all of those sans Nancy's of course. Pretty excited to try it!

If I were from St Louis I'd be much more proud of toasted ravioli than I would be of that provel slop. That's just not fit for human consumption. I've eaten at IMO's several times trying to develop a taste for provel and I just can't do it. Never had a pizza anywhere else that triggers my gag reflex!

Moved here from detroit 2 yrs ago. I so miss buddys and also shields. Jets square comes close for delivery. Little nugget. Detroit gives us jets, little ceasers, dominoes, and hungry howies. All started in metro detroit.

Yeah, a little motor oil doesn't hurt.

Thomas46032, the only downside to IMO's pizza is when the pizza's cheese becomes rubbery after it becomes cold. Thin crust is okay but deep dish has more character to it.

With all due respect to Chicago's Pizza, because the servers are always nice and I do like the pizza; calling themselves "Chicago's" pizza and dubbing their signature pie the Magnificent Mile is an insult to real Chicago style pizza. You can't make a standard deep-dish pizza and call it Chicago Style because your crust is thick.
