Default Weather

Well my husband and I just put in an offer on a home in indianapolis. I am curious on what the weather is like since it has been a long time since I lived in the midwest. How hot are the summers and do the winters still get as cold? I have heard it doesn't snow as much as it used to.

It's really year to year. This past winter, in Fishers, we had a couple big snow storms, but it was very mild and rainy in december. We actually used our big snow blower (from our Chicago days) more this past winter than in the previous 3 years we lived there.

Prepare for up and down weather with more ice than usual.

We usually see a two week stretch of extreme weather in Jan/Feb, July/Aug. Temps hover around zero-10 or 90-100 during those periods. They don't typically last long, and you can pretty much count on temps in the winter to be in the 20s, and summer mid 80s. Summer does get quite humid. Spring and Fall are lovely in the 50s and 60s, but temp swings during this time can be extreme from morning to afternoon (20+ degrees).

We typically don't get much snow. Maybe one or two big blasts per year. We've had barely any rain or thunderstorms this summer, but that's unusual. Indianapolis itself doesn't see much severe weather, but occassionally there's a tornado spotted. We get a flash flood maybe once or twice a year, especially in the spring when the snow melts but the ground isn't quite thawed.

It's really pretty uneventful for the most part.
