We wanted a school system that addressed student population head on. HSE will build new schools rather than have a gargantuan HS like Carmel HS. Plus, since Carmel is such a huge HS, a child has to be tops in order to play on a team. Even though HSE is big, since there are other schools and at this pont, 2 high schools (a third is on the way), more kids will have the opportunity to play for their schools.
That was one of the factors for us almost 5 years ago.
Even though Z-ville is a 3-A school, if you child is good, scouts will show up.
The other nice thing is that if the public schools don't cut it, there are many many private school options ... but they have to wear uniforms ...

Yes, I agree you have to be tops in order to play for CHS...that's why it's so heavily recruited by Universities.
If your child doesn't make the team, however, there are a lot of alternate opportunities to play.
I also agree they should have built another high school at Carmel. It will be interesting to see how they handle future growth.

From what I understand, they don't want to have to split up athletic teams/coaches. Fishers went through it for a couple years and now Fishers HS is up and coming. Their Cross country team is ranked #1 in the state and this is only their second year. Not a bad start!

Both of my step sons attend Fishers HS, and were among the kids who had to be separated from their friends who still attend HSE. It was a very difficult adjustment for them. But fortunately, it won't be an issue a few years down the road.

Westfield also has a great youth sports program for soccer, basketball and baseball. The High School is smaller than both Carmel and Zionsville, yet is competetive with them in at least soccer and cross country at 1/2 the number of students. Not real competetive in football yet. The area is growing rapidly, and will likely need a 2nd school soon. But definitely check them out as well!

Thanks very much for all of the advice...we're coming down next thurs/fri to tour schools/neighborhoods...i am surprised at the cost of housing though - i suppose it's all relative...
the Zionsville Soccer club already responded to my request for info, but i left 3 msgs for the Zionsville High girls basketball coach and he hasnt responded to me...the boys/girls club offers youth basketball but not for my daughter's age (6th grade) and right now she's in a very good, very competitive program. The gentleman at the B/G club had suggested i contact that HS coach as he has heard he was trying to put together a girls feeder team (which is what my daughter is on now)...anyone know him or know of this program?
Thanks again!

That would be Brad Montgomery. They are in the conditioning faze of their season. He is the world history teacher and is new to the district. This is his 2nd year. I think they only won one game last year...he is definately interested in new blood. He'll play freshman on varisity when they deserve it.

It would be a haul, but there's always very competitive basketball at the Fieldhouse in Fishers. My girls played there for 3 years. You could check out this link:

Thank you domergirl - For this league it looks like you need to play on a school team or feeder team to be accepted into the league (i.e. your team is entered they don't take individuals) - am i reading that correctly?
It'd be tough to drive a long way with our schedules unfortunately
main street - yes brad montgomery - that's the guy - i dont know much about him or the school programs - or if any feeder programs exist...we lucked into the one we're in now - heard from a friend who heard from a friend there we tryouts - it was a new program and very successful so far.

Hungry
I am a 22 yr old college student from Southern Illinois. I have resided within the northern Indy area for approximately 2 1/2 years. Ive been looking steadily for a good youth sports organization to help coach with reluctant results. If anyone has any information for me that could be helpful in my search it would be greatly appreciated. You may contact me by email curtisshawflagg@yahoo.com
