Hi, I'm moving to Indianapolis in a month or so and I am trying to decide where to live. I am 29, relativly single and would like to be near some sort of nightlife. I love live music, especially jazz. I will be working on the south west side of the city, kind of near the airport.

Will that be a cruddy commute? It's pretty hellish driving through Hartford, CT during rush hour. Is it similar there?

I'm still stuck on "relatively single".
Yes, you're in for a longish commute if you live in BR and work on the southwest side, but that beats actually living on the southwest side. Downtown can be pricey, but if you check with Van Rooy or Stallard, they have some affordable, if not swanky, apartments in the downtown area. If you live downtown, at least you'll be about halfway between where you work and where you play (BR).

When I lived in Indianapolis, I lived in Waterstone Luxury Apartments on the West Side, right outside the loop off 38th street (not the bad part of 38th street, which is everything INSIDE the loop).

Whatever you do, do NOT rent from Stallard & Associates. STALLARD & ASSOCIATES IS THE WORST LANDLORD I'VE EVER HAD. IF AND WHEN THEY REPAIR SOMETHING, THEY DO IT AS CHEAPLY AS POSSIBLE IF AT ALL. IF YOU CALL FOR EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE AFTER HOURS, THEY DO EVERYTHING WITHIN THEIR POWER TO DEEM IT A NONE EMERGENCY SO THEY CAN CHARGE YOU A $50 TRIP CHARGE plus $40/HR FOR "FALSE MAINTENANCE REQUESTS"!
