If Indiana is so business friendly, why aren't there more Fortune 500 companies? Another thread got me looking into how many there are. Indiana has 6. Ohio has 27. Michigan has 19. Illinois has 32. Yet those states are ranked 22nd, 44th, and 48th respectively in this list. I don't know that any of these rankings mean anything. Very few big businesses move their headquarters out of state. I've seen them move from a city to a suburb or vice versa, but rarely to another state, no matter how many lists it tops.

If you don't think these publications matter then you haven't actually dealt with economic development.
When I met with Ballard about a year ago he brought up a majority of these corporations and other companies consult *Site selection* companies on where to expand their operations and move existing business etc. If Indiana ranks high on site selection magazine obliviously that has MAJOR implications for our state in winning economic development projects.
Wait until you are out in the real world and not having everything provided for you. Out of those 25k jobs, how many were amazon warehouse, Mickey D's, etc. It's one thing to create jobs. Every state can say McDonald's and Walmart helped create job. It's another to create jobs that one can take care of a family on. Indiana hasn't created any of those for a while with the exception of Geico coming to Carmel.

While those jobs are great news for Kokomo, that metro still has almost 15% less jobs than a decade ago.

I want to see yourself explain this for me
Huh? You brought up Kokomo.

Where do you think Urbanophile got his job numbers? A clue for you, it starts with a B and ends with an S.

A net loss of over 4000 jobs is one of the best years ever?

Indianapolis-Carmel Forecast 2013

I suppose the PhD that wrote this is also biased and doesn't know his stuff?

Let's see if we can explain some basic arithmetic using simple numbers. A gain of 25 jobs minus 30 jobs equals a net loss of 5 jobs.

The days of hoping into the Auto Industry making 25-40$ an hour are over. the UAW and the Big 3 cant provide that anymore to the masses.
So lower wage jobs are going to be the new reality for this country unless you have a college education.
You forgot one nuance. None of the recent auto announcements count toward 2011-2012.

Want an example of how to believe a forecast? look nowhere else but the weather.
Weather forecasters cant even predict the weather correctly past 48 hours without some changes.
Keep on naysaying and dreamin.
Everytime a company announces PLANS to bring up to 500 jobs or whatever over the next 10 years or something, you post it here like it's a huge achievement. Pretty much the same thing. It's not a guarantee, just a plan. Remember Litebox?
