Hello,

It has been awhile since I've been around, but I am FINALLY going to be going to Indianapolis June 28th - July 1st. What are some MUST SEE areas, attractions or otherwise in the area? I am still very much considering this as my place of relocation, but I want to get a feel for the culture in the area, the daily city life, and what I can expect as a citizen. Also, since I am going to relocate, I will be speaking with a real estate agent in the area. Can anyone suggest to me someone who might work well with transplants like myself? I am just looking to rent for the first year. Expected relocation date will not be before October 31, 2013.

I am a Manufacturing Engineer (fancy name for a project manager, I suppose), my soon-to-be Wife is a Graphic Designer. Are there any big areas in or around Indianapolis for either of these industries? Perhaps outside of the city that I should look at while I am in town?

Thanks in advance guys!

Well, the typical tourist things in Indy downtown are Monument Circle, perhaps a ride up to the top of the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, stroll along the Central Canal or the shops on Mass Ave. There's a large art museum with a sculpture park at 38th and Michigan Rd northwest of downtown. It's free. You can tour the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Lucas Oil Stadium offers tours sometimes if that interests you. We have the largest children's museum in the work at 30th and Illinois Streets north of downtown if you have kids. And that weekend I know Fishers has it's Freedom Festival going on that weekend (29th & 30th) at Holland Park with a parade along 116th Street in the afternoon of the 30th. Those a few options of things to do and see. I don't really know where the manufacturing engineer jobs are located, if there's a big area in the city for those jobs. I know there is a lot of manufacturing on the southwest side with Eli Lilly and Rolls-Royce among many other companies.

Thanks guys!

Last question: How dog friendly is Indianapolis? Are there lots of green spots to walk dogs? I am a responsible dog owner (as in, if he poops, I clean it) but I know some areas around here frown upon people bringing animals into their "pristine" parks.

You should be fine walking your dog anywhere as long as you clean up after it. Many parks even have dispensers with bags and trash receptacles specifically for that purpose. That said, depending on where you live, you may have to travel a bit to get a decent park to walk your dog if you don't want to walk him or her down your sidewalk.

You will be fine. People walk their dogs all the time or if you want you can go to one of the dog parks where they can run around.
