I am getting ready to go check out a house on the southeast side on Cottage Ave. Does anyone know if this is a bad area?

Well I live right down the street off of 42nd and Arlington and I've never had any trouble but it's just like anything else. Stay to yourself and mind your own buisness and you'll be ok. I would def say that if you moved to that area around post you would be in the minority of you are white. Depending on if you want to rent or buy makes a big difference as well. There is no way I would rent around that area....total waste of money because you could buy a house for cheaper than rent plus more low lifes rent apts as well....no offense. You could get a nice house anywhere north of 46th and west of Arlington in a neighborhood that people take care off.

I live in Grand Reserve at Geist and work around 21st and Shadeland. So far things are working out well.
It takes me about 25 minutes to commute to work. I can't help wondering whether there aren't options that will work better for me, when my lease is up.
Also, I have been taking Pendleton Pike to work and back. I am wondering whether Fall Creek would work better.
Thanks.

Well, I am back again, after almost a year's gap. I have been living in the Grand Reserve Apartments on Fox Road near Geist and am looking to move. (Heating costs are way too high.) I have been driving to work on Fall Creek -- a very enjoyable drive when it is not crowded.
My #1 apartment this time is Harrison Place on Lee Road and 63rd Street. I am also considering North Haven of Carmel which is just North of E 96th Street. I have been using CrimeView Community Incident Map a lot. This gives crime information within Indianapolis. North Haven of Carmel is just outside its coverage area. However, if I search around River Ridge with the one mile filter turned on, I see a lot of crime to the South of River Ridge. I see very little around Harrison Place. Am I reading this right? Or, is Harrison Place that much better than E 96th Street? Appreciate helpful information. Thanks.

Haven't they been generating a lot of vacanies at Grand Reserve Apartments on Fox Road?
With all that construction going on along Pendleton Pike, I would try to avoid it as much as possible.

Which specific area are you talking about -- North Haven of Carmel/River Ridge or Harrison Place? Thanks.

I have been searching the area around Harrison Place for the past several months, in CrimeView Community Incident Map. The reports are not bad at all. If you search now, E 96th Street comes out to be much much worse than Harrison Place.
