need info on bad areas of Indianapolis
I am looking at a house in area near N Post between E 42nd and E 38th. What is this area like. I am looking for a house for my son and don't want to put him into an all black neighborhood for obvious reasons. I am from Ohio so would it be worth it to go look at this house. We are looking for more of an ethnically mixed neighborhood it doesn't have to be the greatest as far as homes being run down so long as it's fairly safe to live in. We are looking for something really cheap so I don't expect too much.

And what are those "obvious reasons"? That area you mentioned is pretty iffy in any event.

I think that she is implying that she, and thus her son, is black. At least, that's how I took it.
I will say though that I honestly do not know of a neighborhood here in Indy that fits her criteria. Of my black friends, 2 live in the 'hood and 3 live in what most would consider white neighborhoods. So, as you can see, from my personal experience I have no clue on such neighborhoods. I know that they exist, I just don't know where.
Of course, when the OP mentioned an "ethnically mixed neighborhood" I not sure EXACTLY what is meant. Solely black and white or like in Greenwood, white, Sikh, Polish and a little of everything else.

I'd steer clear of the area you are looking at. A big generalization here, but the entire area around 38th st is pretty rotten. Turn on your tv for the news and the crime in that area gets regular coverage.
If you are looking for a diverse population you could look at Pike township on the west side of Indy. There are some fairly nice neighborhoods north of Lafayette mall. If you can afford to buy in the northern suburbs they are very nice and, while diversity is still growing there, the majority of people are very accepting and informed.

Based on your other posts, I'm assuming that this house is for your son to live in solo? Or are you going to be living with him?
At any rate, the 38th-42nd/Post Rd. area is classified as the City of Lawrence (within Marion County).
You can contact their police department to get specific statistics on a particular address if you so desire.

It would be easier to recommend an area if you gave an idea of what price range you wish to be in. Are you buying or renting?
I to would steer clear of the area you mentioned... not sure if I would say it is the worst area, but it is close

I would steer clear of that area too....we are renting about five miles from there near
56th Street and Post. I pray every day we will get out safely by the end of the month. Not that it is that bad because you have crime everywhere but every time I hear of something bad, it is near that area and we are about 20 blocks from there.
One thing I will say is keep posting on this board and people here will help you!
Best wishes.
