Hey, all. I'm glad that I found an active board dedicated to the city..

I'm from the Evansville area and soon I'll be moving to Indianapolis to attend IUPUI. I'm not sure if I'll be able to live on campus yet, but if not I'll likely live near campus, probably at Lockefield Gardens.

Can anyone tell me a little bit about the area? I'll be completely new to the whole inner-city thing, but I've got common sense. I'd just like to know how the area is as far as crimes, traffic, and bums.

If anyone knows a lot about the campus, how's the security? Do they keep it safe?

Thanks a lot

Yes, they keep the campus safe.

For the most part the campus is seperated from the city, as in it's it's own little world. I've been taking classes there off and on since 2000 and I don't think that I've once ran into or saw someone who was homeless on campus. Same goes for panhandlers.

I'm not sure about the area around Lockefield Gardens. However, that being said around campus isn't too bad. I will add though that if you go too far, it does get a little 'rough.'

I think one question you have to ask yourself is if you don't get on campus housing, exactly what do you want. Close to campus? College social scene? Etc????

I live on the Southside but yet I'm only 15 minutes from campus during rush hour by car.

Lockefield Gardens used to be a housing project but its a nice apartment complex now. I would recommend it.
