Default Personal Banking

Do any Indy residents have suggestions for a good Bank to use there? I will be moving to Noblesville.

I currently live in Southern California and use Wells Fargo. There are no Wells Fargo locations close to Indianapolis. I've used them since I opened my first checking and savings account years ago so I have no knowledge of any other banks.

Thanks!

I too use to use Wells Fargo when I lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Was extremely happy with them, so I understand your dilemma. Before anything, though, I think that you need to identify what you want your new bank to do for you. Do you have a lot in savings, and want a high interest checking account? Or are you looking for the best free checking, and don't really care too much about savings? Do you have a small home business that you need accounts for?

I jumped into Fifth Third because I needed one quickly. Bad move. They are okay if you just have a free checking account and not much else, unless you ever overdraw your account. The charges are outrageous!!

There are a few local ones in the area (I am in Fishers, very close to Noblesville) that are worth checking out, though it seems all of the banks are merging into larger ones these days.

Your right, it seems all the banks are being bought and it's all turning into one big bank. On that note, one "correction", if you will, on the list you provided, First Indiana will no longer be local or First Indiana at the start of the new year. They are being aquired by M&I Bank. FYI

Regions and Chase are also major players. There's a startup bank in Carmel called Symphony Bank if you really want to stay local.

Greetings,

Although I live in NYC, I've been banking with an Indianapolis bank for years. First Internet bank of Indianian to be precise (First Internet Bank of Indiana). (I make my deposits by mail, which they welcome, and I make my withdrawals via ATMs.) They fees are not as numerous and exploitive as their competitors; they're certainly worth considering.
