My husband and I are moving to Indiana for work. I am working in Bloomington and my husband is looking at a job in Indianapolis. What city is best to live in between those cities? He was looking at houses south of 465, but I really wanted to live a little closer to bloomington. What areas should we look at that are safe and a good place to live?
I really appreciate any help!!

There is really only one town that's closer to Bloomington in the area you're talking about and that's Martinsville. I and many others I'm sure would not recommend it. There's plenty already on the forum about the town if you have specific questions, but in general I would avoid it if you don't already have roots there.

Mooresville isn't too bad, but it's not much closer to Bloomington than where I think you're already looking. My best recommendation would be to look around Center Grove (west side of Greenwood). Great schools, nice houses, just a little bland and very much suburban sprawl. It's still about 45 minutes to an hour from Bloomington depending on traffic and weather, but if you look at a map you'll see there really just isn't anything else besides Martinsville between there and B-town

In no particular order: Franklin (connect on 44 to 135 or 37, there is housing all along 44), Bargersville, Martinsville, Center Grove (42000 residents in White River township), Mooresville. Living in Bargersville or Center Grove near 135 allows one to travel south pretty easily. Martinsville is scenic, I would not mind living there.

I would much rather commute from either Indy or Bloomington than live in between, you'd have to visit to know why.

I think what the other people are trying to beat around the bush and say is that the Martinsville area is kind of "country bumpkin," "redneck," etc. I can see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I doubt it's worse than most small towns in the state.

If schools are is an issue I'd say southern most Center Grove as close to 37 as you can get. If not I'd move further south. There are some nice areas around Waverly and Martinsville. Look at Fox Cliff if it's in your budget.

If you're going to be splitting the commute, I would recommend you stay as close to 37 as possible. That eliminates Mooresville, Franklin and Bargersville in my opinion. I also could never recommend Martinsville for anyone that really wants to live in B-ton.

I'd agree with Indy771-maybe a lengthy commute is acceptable to your husband?

How about Camby? I know someone who lives there and he loves it... It is not as close to Bloomington but at least you will be closer to a major city but won't deal with it's traffic which will save you time when you drive to Bloomington

Camby, Mooresville and Martinsville are all the same in my opinion. Camby and Mooresville are really based off of 67 and pretty ....hmmm.....can't really say what I'm thinking here about all of those towns.

I believe some parts of Camby are in Plainfield's school district. If kids are part of the equation, I'm not sure I'd want to have one parent working in Bloomington, the other in Indy and the kids going to school in Plainfield.
