S'side-

Just another reason that I love CD- that whole six degrees of separation thing!

I'm glad that you will share the info. We eat out at least four times a week (and I'm embarassed to admit how much we out when school and work get crazy...and how frequently that happens!) Being able to have Steak & Shake back on our list would be great. I would be happy to spread the word. For families with children especially, where to go to eat is a major discussion!

Thank you!

The cleanliness issue and service issues were why I wont enter a Dairly Queen and many of the other franchises. It only takes one turn off due to a dirty or smelly place and we wont go back.

Now, the Steak and Shake in Illinois somewhere around Tuscola was magnificent. Looked like huge whole families came for a meal. Every age group. Clean and good service. But it was in a small town and was a familiar eating place with probably local involved management.

I am pleased to report that the Steak n Shake at Fishers Corner in Fishers, IN was booming with business over lunch hour today and the staff there was very busy churning out orders in timely fashion, including ours. The place was also sparkling clean and tidy. Give that store a big A++.

The last time we went, it was obvious that several staff members were stoned- and I don't mean on pot. They have a couple of their friends "hanging out" at the counter. Waited forty minutes for a milkshake and there were only two other parties dining in and no long line at the drive-through.

It's a shame. My kids and I always ate S & S at when traveling and we were excited to have one close to home, but don't go there any more. When a year-old burger place in an area where families eat out often is empty at 6pm on a week night, there is a problem.

Cleanliness and good service don't cost any more. It's all a reflection of management's priorities. If S & S would improve customer service and have a clean facility (spelled- hire good managers), they might have a chance. But they will have to do a bit of courting to get families to return in my area.

Oh...and give us back the lime freeze!
I assume you are talking about Jacksonville FLA? Anyway the one in Brownsburg went that way. I went in and they were not crowded. I was with my family and I waited at the sign for a 'wait to be seated'. So we waited, 10 minutes went by and I decided to grab one of the many vacant booths. At that time the waitress finally acknowledges me and says "sir, wait to be seated". Meanwhile some high school kids just slide on in and grab some open tables. I ask, "What about them? Did they call ahead?" Needless to say I will never return to that place. They could give away those burgers for all I care. Their service is horrible. And the ironic thing is they cater to these kids that order fries and a water and here I am with a family that will likely spend $30-40. I can't complain about their food, I like their fries, but their service is atrocious.

Hey Steak N Shake could soon have the new 'Biglari Burger" on its menu.
Some of these reader comments are hilarious.

I know things will change now at Steak N Shake with Biglari and his right hand man, Cooley, both on the Board.

What kind of things will change? I hope they keep the same irreverent commercials.

More than likely many of the existing company stores will be converted into franchises.

The new Biglari Super Texas burger will also likely make its way onto the menu.

Tables in stores will likely be modified to each have the new Spitzer call button to press for speedy service.

Well, the least they can do is call it the Bilgari super Hoosier burger for it's Indiana stores.

Spitzer ... lord I've been having fun with his name for the past week! Maybe all the waitresses could be called Kristin.
