Hendricks county too, which is just West of Indy. Are you thinking of moving here?

pull mibor.com to check out the basics and just scroll around using your price as the beginning point. Will give you basic idea of what is available re sizes and prices in various counties.
Then using your job location, school info, go to a real estate agent and have them give you more specific info.
But it is a big big spread out area and you need to identify an area or county first.

Try Wayne Township... Berkshire Lakes is a nice, new and no crime addition. We got a 7 bedroom for around 280 on a lake.

Finding a nice home in Indianapolis
Finding a nice home in Indiana isn't very difficult if you know where to look. Even if you want a custom luxury home in Indianapolis, expect to pay much less than you would in the bigger cities out East or West. $ 250,000 will actually get you quite a bit of home in the Indianapolis area. Check out areas like Greenwood and Center Grove on the southside and Carmel, Fishers, and Nobelsville if you are planning on moving to the north side.

Carmel, Fishers areas are pricey and congestive. Danville and Avon areas are smaller with more of a hometown feel, especially Danville since it is the county seat.
North Carolina is cheaper to live in than Indiana. I've lived in all of the above areas.
