Anyone live in Franklin Township?
My family and I are building in Franklin Township. Our home will be done sometime in the fall. Just wondering if anyone on here lives there and what you do/do not like about the area. Thanks!

I am originally from Franklin Township. I no longer live there (moved out 10 years ago) but my parents still do.
I used to like it when it was nothing but cornfields, cornfields and more cornfields with the occasional house or two. The nice thing was Greenwood was less than 10 miles to get to for shopping. So was Beech Grove.
Now I don't like it because most of the beautiful countryish farmland has been converted into housing projects at an astronomical rate, which means more traffic, then they have to add onto the schools or better yet build new ones which means now the property taxes are out of this world.
Add to that now you can travel to the corner of Emerson and Southport for all of your shopping needs. I see they just did put in a new Wal Greens across from the Bunker Hill elementary school. In my opinion Franklin Township is too overcrowded.
Hopefully the home you are having built is of good quality on a nice piece of land. I've seen quite a few "cookie cutter" homes being erect in only a few days, usually in a plotted subdivision at the hands of some illegal immigrants.

The taxes are high.....if this new property tax law passes they won't be bad at all. However, I have heard that the schools will suffer which doesn't sound good.

We are building a home in Franklin Township as well and can't wait to move there. We currently live near 37 and Banta Rd and it is way too industrial. I daily almost get run over by a semi or cement truck. The only thing I see they need to do near our new housing addition is fill in those car swallowing pot holes!

I grew up in Franklin Township and am pleased to answer this question. I also sold homes in a few communities there. The last time I lived in Franklin Township was in 2006.
Franklin township has always had higher taxes because it was the "bedroom" community of the south side. Meaning, no tax base from warehouse, industrial, businesses to speak of. They continually turned away any projects that might be an eyesore-----despite the tax benefits for the residents.
Schools are great. Take a tour of Franklin Central and meet the staff running the show. in comparison to other systems on the southside, they are 2nd only to Center Grove in my humble opinion.
Franklin township has many advantages in terms of location. It is really an awesome spot, very central to everything. I chose to live there for many years when the builder I worked for changed the location of where I was selling on a dime. It was reasonable access for me to sell in Speedway, Brownsburg, Noblesville, Fishers, downtown, etc. I found it just a few minutes and I'm on 65 at Southport or 465 at Emerson or 74 at Acton. (all exchanges in franklin township) There is also some small town pride remaining despite the serious growth in the area.
There is a high percentage of police officers in new home communities in Franklin township also. (Officers that must remain in Marion County to keep their car, etc have chosen that area to build as compared to any other Marion County options)
Though its caught alot of criticism for wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars, check out the new Flashes 6 million dollar stadium. Totally freakin' cool. Definitely a statement to the township's continued support of their schools being cutting edge.
Good luck!

I passed by F.C. one day and couldn't recognize it from when I went there.
My only guess for all of this is everyone wants to live in the country, but what they don't understand is there comes a point and time when it's not country anymore.
I'll bet no one remembers when Southport and Emerson only had the gas station, an old abandoned house caddy corner, and an old barn in front of where the Meijers now is. That was probably the onset of the future.

I do remember!
I moved out to Franklin Township as a child in 1978, so I remember when McFarland Farms (Southport Rd. just west of Emerson) was not a neighborhood, but a dairy farm. There was nothing east of Emerson on Southport, but residential. In fact, Franklin Township zoning promised those homeowners only residential (no commercial) east of Emerson in the 80's. So much for that. ha.
Not that they didn't get to cash in on their valuable ground....
