So I may have employment opportunities at a couple of places, have looked online, but was wondering what locals think. I am looking at a job in higher education and right now it's between two locations; a) Art Institute Indianapolis, and b) Indiana Wesleyan University Indianapolis North.

There's only so much I can find out online, so wanted people's opinions of them before I make any decisions. I know what I have read on news and forums and such on each....

thanks

Depends on the position really. Between the two, it's a toss-up. Is the Art Institute a for-profit school with multiple locations? The arts maybe different, but many campuses across many states screams of U of Phoenix--not a "real" school. I say this as one that is sometimes employed by a legitimate university that offers many online degrees. I'm sure many in the Indy area have seen the ads for the university even though it's in another state.

Indiana Wesleyan has existed for longer which is important in higher ed. This is a satellite campus though.

I think the Art Institute operates the large structures near Michigan Road off I465.
If it's for profit, it appears to be a fair cut above the usual for profits like Phoenix, devry, etc.

Why not try to choose a better known and regarded institution in the region?

The Art Institutes is a chain of schools that is under the umbrella of Education Management Corporation, a group of for-profit institutions. I would be wary of working for them. Indiana Wesleyan, on the other hand, is a respectable institution.

The Art Institutes are for-profit colleges and were sued by several state attorney generals not long ago for their student loan practices. Technically, I think it was the parent company that was sued. They also operate Brown Mackie College. They eventually settled and forgave $102 million in student loans and paid another $95 million in a civil suit. After that, their shares fell from $28 5 years ago to just 9 cents by last fall. If I were you, I'd probably stay away from a job at the Art Institute. I'd definitely pick Indiana Wesleyan.
