You have said indy is a bland place when we hold the biggest cultural event in america, you said clayton was better than carmel when carmel is in fact richer and bigger than clayton and has a strong business culture (but lets not talk about that) I also love how you just took one thing i said and didn't even talk about the rest, which i had to restate here. For the last time I think in terms of Culture AND DIVERSITY STL is better, but just because it is better does not mean indianapolis is nothing. Get off you high horse already.
How you compare clayton to carmel is beyond me...clayton is 5100 people/square mile and carmel is 2100 per square mile. Carmel is 18 square miles and CLAYTON is 2. Of course carmel is "bigger". Did you see Clayton's "skyline", if it had two 600 ft towers, it could compete with indy's downtown. Clayton is a downtown in its own, where people live eat work and shop downtown. Carmel in no way can be compared to this. Clayton is comparable to Evanston, Buckhead, and other "2nd Skyline" areas of other cities. I'm on no high horse. Im just offering perspective. I never said Indy is nothing, that's your take and your sensitivity. What I'm saying is you can't take a city like Indy and start comparing it to other older cities like stl or detroit because it will make Indy look bad. However, Indy is a great city for its tier, and compared to similar cities in its makeup definately stands its ground. But starting to compare its elements to those of larger cities only hurts its image.

Excellent Photos Chitownwarrior. Even with what St. Louis has gone through the past couple decades, it's still a beautiful city.

Thanks! I'm glad to share photos of your great city with the world. It's definately an overlooked and underrated city.

Btw, domergirl, in terms of sports city...st. louis has three major sports: NFL, NHL, MLB. Indy has two, and only one sells out: the colts.

Have you ever been to a cardinals cubs game..in chicago or stl? Or any rams games during the seasons?

Also, Ibelieve stl is on the verge of getting anotehr major sports team for MLS, and there's talk about getting an NBA team too...but not too sure on teh NBA team.

I guess Indy definately has a more thriving amateur sports scene, esp college sports between IU and Purdue which I must admit is a great rivalry

Chitown, don't be hostile! I like St. Louis better than Indy! Good grief.

But as for sports ... sweetie, Indianapolis is the amateur sports capital of the country. There's more to life than pro sports. The NCAA is HQ'd here, we consistently get Big 10 tournaments and the NCAA finals, and uhhhhhh, the Indianapolis 500? The Brickyard 400??? Heard of those? USA Track and Field is HQ'd here too. FloJo set the world record for the 100meter dash in Indianapolis, the IU Natatorium is one of the best world class swimming venues. Heck, they even converted Conseco into a natatorium for the ... was it the world championships or the US Championships a year ago. So, well, ok, STL has more pro teams, big deal. Indianapolis is a sports capital much moreso than St. Louis. And that's only Indy. This state has 4 college basketball teams in the top 20 ....

Yes, been to many a Cubs/Cards game.

Can you really blame us for not going to Pacers games? Indiana is the center of the basketball universe, and they expect us to buy that crap they are selling? (Not just Pacers, but entire league) Give me a good high school game over that soap opera any day. Or you can go to Butler for real basketball. Honestly, the Pacers are a textbook example of how to turn away one of the most loyal bases. As for the NFL, I don't think there is a doubt in anyone's mind.

I've been watching this board for a while now and just would like to add my two cents. I haven't been to STL in 7 or 8 years, but the day I got home from there, I shattered my right elbow , have had four surgeries, and am convinced the city is cursed. My dad's best friend lives there and he frequently makes trips (he is an Indy native) and you really can't compare the two cities- they're just so different. STL to me is like a mini Atlanta while Indy is like a smaller Dallas/ Ft. Worth- they're extremely spread out. Indy is a sports mecca that is for sure. Yes STL has three pro teams, but honestly, I agree with the post above. I'll take a great Carmel vs. North Central game over the Pacers anyday. Here in KY we don't have pro teams, so college and high school sports are a huge deal, just like in IN, so I can relate in a sense.

I've been reading through the thread and just wanted to drop my 2 cents.

I would have to put Indianapolis in the same teir as Charlotte, Nashville, Jacksonville or even Austin. All are decent cities in my book.

St. Louis is more in line with the above mentioned cities like Baltimore, Cleveland and Detroit.

I personally prefer the urban experience of St. Louis to that of Indy. But Neither one is better then the other.

Shoot, there aren't very many cities I don't like. (Well, maybe Detroit and LA)

And, THANKS for the pics of StL! They were great! Brought back some fond memories.

We need to remember that St Louis was the 'hot spot' of the country for a very long time. It was the gateway to the west, the jumping off point for the great expansion of our nation. Quite a bit of history in St Louis, indeed.

Indy is OK. It's just not 'world class' yet. Sports - world class, yes. Most everything else, not so much. But, right now, it suits me just fine.

Ya gotta make your own way in the world. That means finding a place you can like and want to live in. If you fall in love with the place - GREAT! But mostly we just want a nice place to live.

Every place can't be Paris or Singapore or New York or even St Louis.
Indy's OK.
