I do not enjoy buses except for very short commutes, mostly due to the people riding it often have poor manners and are not well groomed. This changes somewhat for the better as you get closer to downtown and the major jobs centers.

For short rides I prefer to take a cab or uber.

Few people let the environment dictate their decisions though it is fun to talk about it.
Ha ! Spoken like someone who's never lived in the glorious Pacific Northwest

Btw, yeah - agree that buses in the city can have their share of sketchy colorful characters..but to me, that's part of the fun

Default Response regarding buses in Pacific Northwest

I road a bus once while staying in Portland from the burbs to the airport after dropping off rental car. My wife did not enjoy getting hit up for change which is what happens almost daily when you ride the el in Chicago.

I can without the characters and bums.

I've been asked for money while pumping gas in my car.

The reference to PNW was more in response to your statement how few people let environment dictate their decisions. Not so few in this part of the planet, just sayin.

Default Places people hit you up for change

I have been hit up for change pumping gas in every kind of neighborhood (rural truck stop to inner city).

I have been hit up for change walking downtown, stopped at traffic light, and even at church.

It happens. I do not like it and just say no and move on. I used to collect subway stamps and give them away to bums who looked like they really needed it and even gave a few bucks to the guy at church to get him out of my face but I did not and do not like getting hassled by people begging for money.

Getting hit up for money on the el happens at least weekly and it is even worse on buses, especially in bad parts of town.

This week my car broke down in Indy and they accidentally took it to the wrong Pep Boys for work on E Washington (ended up in Fishers where they can do the work). What a crappy part of town. Would not want to have to take a bus around there or Raymond st which we use when going downtown from the southeast.

I just got a rental for the week I am in Indiana but would hate to have to rely on Public transportation to get around Indy.

I rely on Indygo for all of my commuting. They are all equipped with bike racks for when your stop isn't exactly where you need to be. It isn't the best system by any means but it is efficient and relatively safe. I've never had any problems with fighting or any other types of violence outside of arguments here and there. They have an app now that you can use to find out how your bus is running and estimated times of arrival. A vote was just passed to extend the hours of operation and expand the system along with a few brt lines already mapped out. Hopefully this will encourage more useage and that will eventually lead to finally getting some light rail.

Did they discontinue?
Yes it does. I use it frequently. It also connects with Hamilton county and Johnson county's commuter access program. I can't remember what they are called atm.
