I need to attend a training workshop at the Indiana fairgrounds. I plan to fly into Indianapolis. Is it practical to take a taxi from airport to fairgrounds area? Also need a hotel close as possible to fairgrounds. Not a 5 star but not a motel 6. Not sure on surrounding neighborhoods. Don't want to be walking in a ghetto area.

The map made it appear the fairgrounds was a long distance North of the city. I don't mind taking a taxi 15 mins or so
to the fairgrounds. I'll also have more choices of hotels near the airport. Thanks

The airport is quite a haul from the fairgrounds if you are going to taxi multiple times in a week. You'd probably be better served downtown or further north in Castleton/Keystone Crossing.

There are not many hotels right near the state fairgrounds.

Yeah, hotels are pretty few around the fairgrounds if there at all. You'll probably have to stay downtown (about 4-5 miles from the fairgrounds), Castleton/Nora (about 5-8 miles), or around I-70/I-465 interchange on the east side (about 7 miles). There's a hostel on 49th St. It doesn't sound like that's what you're interested in but it's about the only way you could be within a mile walk of the fairgrounds. The Monon Trail goes right by the hostel and takes you straight to the fairgrounds. Anything by the airport would probably take 25 minutes or so to get to the fairgrounds, depending on traffic.

The neighborhood around the fairgrounds is not good, so be sure you have transportation

I decided to book the Hyatt near the airport. Plan on taking a taxi to fairgrounds on Thurs & Friday. Company will
reimburse me. Don't want to be walking near the fairgrounds and I thought it would be best to be closer to the airport than to the fairgrounds. Thanks.

You would find it 1. more enjoyable, 2. easier to get a quick ride from someone else if you stayed downtown. Lovely place to be now with all kinds of restaurants and things to see. Loads of all kinds of hotels downtown.
