Default questions about possible move from Florida

I recently looked into a job in Brownsburg, IN; I presently work in South Florida & am not too thrilled with the area in general. I would appreciate it if readers would provide some info. on the aforementioned area (cost of living, entertainment, family-friendly?, etc.)
thanks...

Hi, I am a Realtor, and I live in Avon, which is just South of Brownsburg. I think Hendricks County is great for families. There is plenty to do, great schools, and yet it is close enough to get downtown easily. As for housing, you will find almost anything you would want. There are newer subdivisions or more established ones, homes in alsmost any price range. For my family of 4, I am happy in a home that is over 2300 sq. feet and costs under $150,000 with a third of an acre. Please send me a direct message for more info, and check my profile for my website

I think you'll also find the cost of living in Indiana to be much more affordable than in Florida.

What is it about South FL that you don't like? Curious because I lived in the Clearwater/St Pete area for a little while and came running back up north. For me it was "too much" of everything. Too expensive, too much traffic, too much crime, too hot in summer, etc. I've come to the conclusion that Florida is a nice place to visit in the winter and that's about it.

Well, to be specific, I live near Miami and, having spent time in St. Pete, the former city is just a lot nastier & ethnic. I love the weather here, though--the hotter the better. I was just curious as to whether or not I would be able to find a safe & affordable rental community near Brownsburg (we won't be able to buy a home for another 2 or 3 years.)

There is an apartment community off of 56th Street between 74 and Northfield Drive. It looks fairly nice. There is another one behind the Kroger (i think its a Kroger) and K-Mart off of Green Street.

Aside from that, I am not sure what else there is except for rental houses and duplexes.

That quote is almost as bad as the guy from New Jersey that said in the Houston forum " Our minorities are much more behaved then the ones in the south. "

Donald,

I'm a hoosier looking to flee south in a year or so. Indy is a great city. Brownsburg has great schools and very low crime. If I could take Indy and transplant it in the south, it would be the greatest city in the U.S. But I can't take the freaking cold anymore. It's sapping the life out of me. I'm heading south.. perhaps New Mexico or South Carolina. Best of luck in Indy. Go Colts!!!!

Unless you are cold-blooded, prepare yourself for exactly the opposite - oppressive heat and humidity for 8-9 months out of the year. I am a transplanted Hoosier who ended up in the Tampa area after a stint in Wisconsin, and I hate it here!

Right now it is wonderful - cool nights (50s) and warm, low humidity days (70s.) In another month it will be in the 90s, cooling to the high 70s at night, and 100% humidity. It's so miserable hot you can't do anything outside without roasting.

And, if you've seen the movie "Groundhog Day" you'll know just what it's like down here - there are no seasonal changes to speak of, even less so if you're in south Florida. One day looks just like the next. It's weird, and hard to describe unless you experience it yourself.

Granted, there may be some who like this, but throw in the influx of immigrants, the outrageous home prices, property taxes, and insurance costs, and suddenly it's not such a wonderful place.

We have actually experienced a loss of residents in the last year, and it's expected to get worse, if that tells you anything.

RM
