Would you now, today consider Indy the "Tech Capital of the Midwest"? I've seen the title thrown out there recently. If not, then who?

Not even close.

Start-ups and venture Dollars--Chicago by far and other cities similar in size to Indy exceed what happens in Indianapolis.

https://techcrunch.com/2018/03/25/he...-for-startups/

Detroit and Cincinnati have more tech jobs that require a degree. Detroit, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Columbus and Minneapolis all have more tech jobs that don't require a degree.

I'll also add from personal experience: 4 years ago when my son was graduating with a degree in computer science, good internship experience and a great GPA he had a single interview from an Indiana company. To be fair, he could have had an interview with my daughter's company, but he didn't want to work in the same place as his sister. Except for my daughter, who wanted to stay in Indiana to be close to her then boyfriend/now husband, not a single young person I know that grew up in Indiana remained here for a tech job. I know about 6-10 young people that fall in that category.

Default stringly disagree

im sorry but you're throwing a lot of opinions and no facts. you named STLS but indy beat out a lot of cities in the amazon bid and now I seen news where LEV has moved their HQ from Arizona to INDY. what about Infosys building the large project at the old airport that's to bring 3000 jobs? salesforce has made Indy its second largest workforce outside of San Francisco. I think you should do a little more research and you'll be surprised and where Indy is compared to a lot of the midwest

I keep hearing the Minneapolis/St. Paul region is one of fastest growing high tech metros in the nation for employment and 1st or 2nd in the Midwest.

According to TechCrunch, Indianapolis is 6th on the list in the Midwest as far as deal volume behind Chicago, Minneapolis, Columbus (OH), Detroit, and St. Louis and 7th on the list as far as dollar volume as of last March. A year before they ranked best tech startup cities in the Midwest. Indy came in 8th in that report based on number of tech startups since 2015.

Tech Republic's list of 8 best places in the Midwest to find a tech job, Indianapolis didn't make the rankings. In that ranking, Ann Arbor was #1 followed by Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Minneapolis.

A 2017 report from Zip Recruiter ranked Indy 13th overall for fastest growing tech jobs and 4th out of the cities in the Midwest behind Kansas City (the only Midwest city in the top 10), Cincinnati, and Cleveland and just one spot ahead of Columbus (OH).

Indianapolis is not the tech capital of the Midwest by any estimation I can find, but it is certainly up there for tech jobs.

Thank you Ischyros! I reviewed those same sources despite the previous post recommending I do my research. I was too lazy/tired/uninterested in posting all the sources (although I think we posted one of the same links.) Good for you.

What a poster that uses a no longer in business email service as a user name can add about tech, I don't know.

To be honest I totally agree indy isn't the tech hub of the Midwest but its not slagging behind as many think it is either. I think over the years it will gain on several cities that are currently ahead of Indy. yes hands down Chicago is the overall winner here and its not even close in that regard but Indy can definitely make gains on other peer cities easily.

I know a lot of people in tech, and more than one person with nothing to gain by making the claim refer to Indianapolis as a "tech town."

Tech capital of the Midwest is only something I've heard from people such as the Mayor or people whose job it is to sell the idea. Indy holds its own, but tech capital is a reach.

What Indy succeeds in with regard to tech are operations sites of larger divisions. I used to work for the Indy satellite office of a Boston-based tech company. Pay was good by local standards, but the actual product development was not done in Indy. The startup scene is not that great.
